Greetings, Dear Readers
Young architect and Restless Spirits,
Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. Craftsmanship is an architecture tradition inherited by generations. It’s an ethos to connect yourself with tradition, tribes, past wisdom to contextualise with contemporary issues. I came from builders family, learning from my grand father who is naturally taught by experience and my father who is structure engineer. I have been surrounded by many craftsmen since I was a child. I learned design method from bare-foot experience or doing distant learning-reading case studies, and direct observations through experimentations in daily basis. I found out that critical craftsmanship is a way to connect 5 steps of designing total architecture. context-theory-method-implementation-and the last one -evaluation especially in Guha, Piyandeling and in some of the published projects here. Doing evaluation is not easy, it’s about emptying your glass, knowing the shadow that you are facing in, and let the critical errors, collaborations, and gradual improvement. That move create grammars on Tectonic, Methodology, and Craft.

Taksu is the unification about art and building science, it’s total architecture. It’s a holistic view or combination between way of universe and integrative approach to combine the disciplines. To appreciate architecture we need to understand other party perspective, knowing that every activity drives the forces in form making. At the end the product of architecture is a way multi dimensional. If you think about architecture, it’s so simple, human make a poetic shelter then, he put it in nature and we call it architecture. Taksu means that you start with promise first, that you have to design architecture sincerely for people who use it, you promise that you will explore, experiments, and doing it from the greater scale to micro scale. You drive it high until you get something new from the creativity universe. You promise to walk the creativity process mindfully with critical thinking. At the end, when you are in heaven of creativity, you have produced something. Please promise that you will stay humble, and still know nothing.

Success is personal. It’s the story about one person grow. All of us have unique background that we can have relation to our own context, when we are foolish, when we feel anxiety, then we are required to overcome difficulties. Everyone is having a unique journey, the most important part is not the destination but the transformation. I failed in some part of my life, I learn by mistakes, learning that there is limit that one that you can control and another you can’t control. I just focus on thing that I can control in my everyday lift. The Fool’s progress is the story on how to overcome story behind the stage, and what we can learn from it. Behind every success there must be trial and tribulation, struggle and hardships. In this story you will know that behind every journey, there must be friends and companions, supports and promoters. Let’s listen to one another people journey. To be successful you’ve got to work hard, to make history, simple, you’ve got to make it and interestingly at the end it’s not about you, it’s about collaborative works. Success is togetherness. Sometimes the secret is the journey with their loved one.

Writing is a way to sharpen the mind. The mind is in bubble of abstraction. It starts with fantasy before it transform to imagination and comes to birth of the ideas. Look at the beautiful phrases to appreciate literacy. Those phrases sparks creativity, and reflection on yourself. I wake up in early morning everyday to write reflection journals. It’s a ritual that I love, then my family awakes, the inspirations comes. The clients came with such dream and expectation, the design starts with questionnaire. It’s their book, it’s a privilege to design them a home that they are comfortable with. I learnt from my beautiful friends, that to surround yourself with angels of words gives positive energy that is long lasted. In an ant theories, a hardworking animals that metaphors the reality of literacy, the book started by in touch with beautiful people as actors, beautiful souls as networks, clean heart, angelic act as theories. Theories found by wandering, criticizing, or by wondering about some of the phenomenon. It’s breed of innovation.

[under constructed] I divided the story into several chapters. The first chapter is my formation year. I came from a builder’s family, born in Surabaya. I spent some of my childhood in Bedugul, Bali accompanying my father that worked in the construction of Bali Handara project. I was astonished to see the culture of Bali, the island of God. When I was ten years old, I moved to Jakarta. Jakarta is a mixture of colonial, traditional, and ultra-modern cities. This juxtaposition shows the true potential of Indonesia, and this potential has its weakness in its infrastructure and integrative planning.
Since working in the architecture field, I was curious about what’s the limit of architecture. I was hungry for learning, and the first step is to get to know myself better. I moved to Bandung to study architecture in ITB. I worked in Ridwan Kamil + Partners’s studio, Urbane, for a year before working in Singapore in DP Architect, and finally accepted to work in Foster and Partners London. I put some understanding that The studio selected me, not me choose them. I did send many applications, and many got rejected. Few were accepted.
The second step was understanding that the studio has goals, and I do have plans. How to put both goals in harmony is the key. I need to care about the studio’s goals. By doing that, I have responsibility for the studio. The story then continued when I studied again in Sydney, continuing my master’s degree in Urban Design and Development under Jon Lang and James Weirick. Then, I started my firm, Realrich Architecture Workshop. This chapter is the formation year, year before I met Laurensia.

Reflection Letter
The few years when I was a student in ITB, I was a more socially active person, I was in student organization then I become secretary-general and some of the technical coordinator, and planning team who were in discussion about the central theme, vision, and executing the plan into the schedule. I was involved in training new organization members for one year and two years below. The training is ongoing for one year per batch led by the leader of the student organization.
The training is about personal and communal on getting to know yourself and how to be collaborative such as knowing your responsibility and practising leadership. My role was at backstage; we learn, prepare, and evaluate the implementation of the training. I knew that we are never alone in performing the ideas, and understanding that the picture needs to be pushed, pushing myself to be active unpretentiously while not expecting anything in return .
That attitude is profound to my self on making an effort from concept to execution. I met with many inspiring people during my formative years, few notable one is Ridwan Kamil, Baskoro Tedjo, the Hermit of Atelier 6 Architects, and Eko Purwono and all of the fellow lecturers.

99 percent is the concept of Never Finito, never finished. This idea came through when I invited Anas Hidayat to Jakarta, in the open house The Guild. Many people coming, and gave their interpretations about project work.

The Gerundelan of 99,9% The Guild : Arsitektur Jaman Edan-Urban-Scarpan-Deleuzian – Tulisan oleh Anas Hidayat-Architext di REpublik Kreatif, Surabaya
