Synopsis

This book aims to showcase the diverse architectural heritage of the Dayak people in Kalimantan. Compiled through a collaborative effort of 14 authors from various backgrounds, this book serves a simple purpose: to fill the gap in comprehensive archival and documentation of the diverse Dayak architecture that still stands today. I believe that with a solid foundation of documented knowledge from the past, we can certainly strengthen efforts to develop knowledge for the future.

This book is organized into 14 chapters. The first chapter serves as a prologue, providing a brief overview of the historical implications of the diversity of Dayak architecture. The second chapter presents a concise historical mapping of the Dayak people. The subsequent 11 chapters delve into 11 categories of architectural objects drawn from 64 case studies. The final chapter, an epilogue, summarizes the diversity of architectural objects inventoried in this book. Each architectural object is written using a standardized format that balances textual and visual elements. Furthermore, the writing structure of each object extends beyond architectural aspects to include historical and cultural dimensions, aiming to provide a comprehensive and encyclopedic overview.
