Reflection Letter:
Hello! My name is Felicia, an architecture student from Ciputra University, Surabaya. I was born in Yogyakarta, and moving cities has kind of been part of my life for a while now. Moving from Jogja to Surabaya for college felt… normal. But for some reason, moving to Jakarta this time felt different. Maybe because this time, I wasn’t just moving to study, but to work, to learn in a very real, very practical way. Internship hits differently, I guess.
Almost five months ago, I started my internship journey at RAW. Looking back now, I realize how much has happened in such a short time. RAW was not just a place where I learned how to draw better, model better, or think more systematically about architecture. What struck me the most was the ecosystem that exists here. RAW is not merely an architecture firm. Through RAW, DOT Workshop, and Omah Library, I experienced an environment where architecture, thinking, making, reading, discussing, and living are all interconnected. It’s an ecosystem that feels alive, one that encourages curiosity, openness, and growth.
Being in this environment made me reflect a lot on what architecture actually means in practice. Architecture is not just about buildings or aesthetics, it’s about people, process, collaboration, and intention. Seeing how Kak Rich builds this ecosystem, how he treats architecture as both a discipline and a way of life, was honestly mind-opening. From daily conversations, briefings, casual discussions, to random life talks, there was always something to take home and think about. Throughout my time here, I learned not only technical things, but also how important mindset is. How to be more critical, more aware, but at the same time more humane. RAW taught me that architecture doesn’t stand alone, it grows from relationships, from how we communicate, how we respect others, and how we stay curious. I also learned that learning itself doesn’t always come from formal teaching, it often comes from listening, observing, and being present.
I want to say thank you to Kak Rich, who is always willing to share his thoughts, insights, and experiences so openly. Thank you for creating a space that feels safe to ask questions, to make mistakes, and to grow. Your way of thinking and sharing has shaped the way I now see architecture and life in general.
Thank you as well to Kak Ezra, Kak Putra, Kak Yus, Kak Chai, Kak Novi, Mas Beng, Kak Riyan, Kak Shafira, Kak Zikri, Kak Ken, Kak Edho, Kak Tim, Kak Tyo, Kak Adit, Kak Zyadi, Kak Ikhsan, Kak Joshi, Kak Mel, Kak Irfan (and the rest of the team), who patiently guided me, answered my questions, shared knowledge, and never made me feel small for not knowing something. Every small discussion, correction, and feedback mattered more than you probably realize.
And to my dear intern friends—Edel, Wawaa, Alma, Aisyah, Raniya, Mai, Alfa, Luna, Sister Ahlal, Kak Hasan, Dimas, Bobi aka Nafis, Farid and many others who colored my internship days, thank you for being so supportive, caring, and always checking in on each other. Thank you for the laughs, the shared confusion, the mutual encouragement, and for making the internship days feel lighter, even when everything was new and challenging. I genuinely couldn’t have asked for better people to grow with during this phase.
Lastly, thank you RAW, for becoming a space where I didn’t just work, but also learned how to be more grounded, more reflective, and more appreciative of the process. These past months have been full of firsts, lessons, and quiet realizations that I know I’ll carry with me long after this internship ends. It’s been a journey I’ll always remember.
Best Regards,
Felicia Roseanne Sandrea
