Bugis Batubara – Universitas President

Reflection Letter:

Hello, my name is Bugis Batubara, though many people call me Bang Bugis. I am currently a seventh-semester student at President University. Not many people are familiar with my university, especially since I am part of the very first cohort of the Architecture program on campus. To be honest, I never initially planned to become an architect. I chose this path because of the scholarship opportunity I received, as well as an effort to fulfill my father’s dream a dream he once held but never had the chance to achieve himself.

Along this journey, I often felt like a stranger, unfamiliar with the world of architecture, uncertain of where or how to begin. At first, RAW Architecture was something quite unfamiliar to me. I came to know about the firm through one of my competition colleagues, and I still remember that during the early days of my internship, when I was asked about RAW Architecture, I honestly knew very little about it. However, I am deeply grateful to have been given the opportunity to become part of the RAW Architecture family. From the beginning, my main goal in joining was simply to learn. Yet throughout the internship, I realized that the learning experience I gained went far beyond what I had expected.

I was guided extensively in understanding architecture in real practice on the ground. Every time I received a new task, I felt truly excited, because with each assignment I completed, I gained new insights and knowledge that had once been unfamiliar to me. Almost every day in the studio, I listened, absorbed, and learned architectural terms as well as drawing techniques that I had never encountered before. Beyond deepening my understanding of architecture, my internship at RAW also offered me many valuable lessons about life. It has helped me grow, develop, and strive to become a better version of myself.

Through this testimony, I would also like to thank:

  1. Kak Rich and Kak Yudith, Kak Rich, in particular, has always been genuinely eager to share his vast knowledge and insights. For instance, he often organized various classes to help us sharpen our skills, along with other meaningful learning sessions. Beyond that, he consistently encouraged us to practice writing, and even amidst his busy schedule, he still made time to teach us about communication skills. His humble presence, along with the way he values both the small and the big things, created a studio atmosphere that felt warm, enjoyable, and full of enthusiasm.
  2. Kak Chai, Bang Ikhsan, Kak Novi, Mas Bambang, Kak Uung, Kak Tyo, Mas Yusru, Bang Joshi, Bang Kamil, Bang Ezrah, Kak Revi, Kak Rizka, Mas Aca, Bang Neilson, Kak Aul, Kak Mei Mei, Kak Gaby, and many others they were always willing to make time amidst their busy schedules to teach me about architecture, software, and even various lessons about life. Thank you for constantly sharing your insights, patiently answering my questions whenever I was confused with my studies, making me laugh with refreshing jokes, offering valuable advice, and always making me feel included and never left out.
  3. To all my fellow interns, whose names I cannot mention one by one, and to the other members of RAW Architecture, thank you for always being so welcoming, friendly, and for never making me feel excluded during my time at RAW.

Lastly, I feel truly happy because this experience has become one of the most valuable moments in my life. I sincerely hope that our paths will cross again in the future, and with all my heart, I want to express my deepest gratitude for everything I have gained in this place.
