All of the context and the design results portray our belief that poetic architecture comes from many experiments involving many parties. Design variations resulting from consistent experimentation have a common thread that is intact and complex but still integrated. The thread connects one and another projects through a collaborative but personal architectural approach, a continuous point. That’s the “M”, the symbol elaborated from our studio’s daily, which we interpret as Method, a way to connect architectural theory to the practice.
The Chimney Bioclimatic Home results from a study of skylight as a passive light and air tunnel in tropical climates. There are 7 skylights on the house varying in dimension, which suit the lighting needs calculation based on the room volume below and compared to the sunlight angle. One of the skylights is made big as a center point and a visual connection with the void between the living area.
The skylights are made to have a good air circulation performance without letting the rainwater in. The construction is designed to be floating without a frame, but just a stainless pin, giving a gap below covered with a mosquito net. Finally, the glass cover is installed with a slope to prevent waterlogging.
Besides the details of the skylights, the house has another uniqueness in its form. The form of the house is inspired by the site, which is located on the curved corner, giving the vibe of it sitting on the top of the garden, shaded by tree canopies. So, the curved shape is implemented for the massing, as well as for doors, windows, skylights, and even several elevations that function as a divider between the family and prayer rooms.
