Studio Garasi, Unlimited within Limitations

In 2011, our studio was mainly run inside a bedroom-turned-office in our principal’s parents’ house. Over the time, it expanded to the garage area. The house ceiling was designed to be 3.25 m high, providing the opportunity to divide the space vertically, so that our studio could have a mezzanine.

The layout design often modified every month according to the ever-changing function of the space. One day the mezzanine area was used as a place to store books and on other days it turned into a place for material samples.

Sometimes his mother commented, “Has it changed again?”

One thing that can be understood is that this limitation explored context sensitivity, by critically calculating the elements that were designed to be optimal. Thus forming a cave concept that changes slowly, transforming from one stage to another.
