Working on school projects has never been easy. Alfa Omega School, a medical school in UPH, a vocational school in UI, also Tunas Muda’s campus renovation, facelift, and multifaceted projects—each project brings its unique set of demands: from accommodating continuous growth, integrating cross-programs from clients, defining the school’s identity, adhering to budgets & timelines while also working on our vision & mission on architecture.
Now we are working on Tunas Muda’s new building with integration to the old one. The school is undergoing rapid growth driven by rising number of students, prompting the addition of several new buildings within its complex. In the first phase, they will build a 5-storey structure which we call the Extension Wing 1.
As the existing mass lacks adequate space for canteen, we dedicated a significant portion of the ground floor in the new wing to a semi-outdoor canteen. An outdoor area is also laid out to seamlessly connect the new and old ones, offering a more spacious & comfortable dining environment for the students.
Understanding the importance of convenient parking, we have calculated & adjusted the parking lot around the building to meet the community’s needs. Some parking spaces are also rented from adjacent vacant land.
Classrooms will be on the 1st to 3rd floors, with glass windows facing north & south to maximize natural ventilation & daylighting facing north south. Connecting bridges to the existing mass on several floors support student mobility, daily and especially during events that utilize the multi-purpose hall on the 4th floor.
The multi-purpose hall doubles as FIBA standard basketball court, utilizing wide-span curved steel structures topped with lightweight roof to create a column-free space. With a capacity of 380 students, the raised roof ensures cross ventilation through north & south openings.
The Extension Wing 1 was carefully crafted to address school’s growth and enhance the school community by fostering physical connections and creating a supportive environment for students.
