Five years after Studio Garasi was established, Realrich bought a plot of land in the Taman Villa Meruya complex. On this land, The Guild was built, encompassing Realrich’s home, a dental clinic, a library, and our architecture studio.
The Guild is situated within a residential complex developed around the 1990s. On the south side, neighboring houses predominantly in Mediterranean style have a wide enough road that two cars can pass. On the north side, the neighboring houses consist of single-story rental homes, coffee shops with non-permanent materials, catering businesses, and wholesale durian vendors, with a narrow road where only one car can pass at a time. The Guild’s location precisely borders this existing paradox, the residential complex, and the urban settlement area.
On this land, three 12-meter-tall Trembesi trees surround the building on the south side. Meanwhile, the entrance to The Guild faces the hot western side. However, the presence of these trees and other small trees planted around it maintain a comfortable microclimate within The Guild.
The difference in contour, which is lower on the south side by 2 meters, often floods the entrance area of The Guild as it is the lowest point compared to other roads in the complex. To address this, we also made infiltration wells along the west side of our building.
Sometimes, during the day, the front yard becomes a gathering point for neighboring children to play together. With its strategic location, the building enriches the daily lives of those who interact with it, fostering a sense of belonging and creativity in its unique environment. Looking to the future, The Guild continues to grow in the transformative power of craftsmanship architecture and play a role in shaping the microclimate in its environment.
