Ar. Realrich Sjarief was invited to the Road to ARCH:ID event on January 18th, 2025, at Wisma TOTO, Jakarta. We want to express our sincere gratitude to the organizing team of the Road to ARCH:ID 2025 Talk Series for bringing together such a diverse and inspiring group of architects. We were honored to share the stage with fellow architects @yanuarpf and @adi1710, whose contributions added immense value to the discussion also special thanks to the moderator @imeldaevasari for facilitating such an engaging and insightful conversation.
During the event, Ar. Realrich Sjarief discussed the concept of performative archipelago, a theme that resonates deeply with architecture firm’s approach in Indonesia; began by exploring the fundamentals of architectural education in Indonesia, dividing it into two main pillars: studio and theoretical classes. Before entering the university level, he highlighted the importance of early education, focusing on character development, psychology, and skill alongside scientific reasoning. The stages of cognitive development in education begin at age 2, where attachment is key, to age 2-7, when symbolic thinking emerges, followed by logical reasoning between 7-11, and scientific reasoning after age 11.
This scientific reasoning plays a significant role in shaping how we approach architecture and also how our firm is built on a scientific foundation, transitioning from an intuitive-based approach to one grounded in evidence and data. Looking to the future, we emphasized the importance of adaptability and resilience, aligning with economic trends and findings from the World Economic Forum. We also highlighted the need to nurture and build specific skills to address the industry’s evolving demands. Those skills are psychological skills, strategic skills, abstraction skills, integrative skills, practical skills, analytical skills, narrative skills, and branding skills.
Road to ARCH:ID is a platform to encourage meaningful conversations and exchange valuable insights within the architectural community. We hope the upcoming ARCH:ID 2025 @arch.id.indonesia will continue to contribute to architecture development and shape the future.
