Rumah Vermont

This house is located on a plot measuring approximately 25 x 12 meters, and situated in Tangerang that still shaded with a microclimate that remains favorable, with daytime temperatures reaching around 29-30°C. The primary goal of this house design is to reduce the temperature by up to 3 degrees.

From the front view, the house features curves made of bamboo and brick, with railings that curve upwards, forming a consistent architectural language that unifies the entire structure.

The ground floor is appears to be elevated, allowing air to flow through creating a wind corridor that extends from the front of the house through to the backyard garden. This layout integrates the service and utility areas while enhancing the circulation of fresh air throughout the home.

The first floor consists of a communal space with a bedroom overlooking the swimming pool. This room is open and unpartitioned, separated only by dynamically shaped brick arches, which provide privacy for the residents on the first floor and create shading in the living room.

On the second floor, there is a balcony with overlapping elements that create a cooling light effect below. This balcony also offers space for the homeowners who enjoy gardening, allowing them to place plants on top. On the concrete slab of the second floor, openings have been created to allow a tree to grow. By bringing natural elements closer to the home, this provides positive psychological effects, like a “hugging tree,” fostering a harmonious relationship between the inhabitants and nature.

The top floor is equipped with photovoltaic solar panels, providing the home with a sustainable energy source and supporting the home’s overall environmental performance.

The performance language is a key aspect of our research in implementing bioclimatic architecture. It demonstrates that creating thermal comfort and functionality can be achieved through thoughtful and good design.
