Shortlisted in Monsoon Architecture Award 2025 for Guha the Guild

We are also deeply honored to the IIA Cochin Center, that our project, Guha the Guild, has been shortlisted in the Public Space category for this award. The event will take place from March 28 to March 29, 2025, in Kochi, India. The IIA Cochin Center @iiacochincentre has been organizing the Monsoon Architecture Award @maf_iiacochin annually. This award is a celebration of architectural diversity, featuring several categories that highlight exceptional works from different regions. These include the Single Family Residential, Public Space, and Institution/Workplace/Commercial categories. We’re truly excited to see the incredible projects that have been shortlisted in each category. A heartfelt congratulations to all the talented architects and their remarkable work!

Our project, Guha the Guild, represents a space that celebrates the simple, everyday work done by countless individuals in Indonesia, including our own studio. It is a product of collaboration with craftsmen, designers, and many other individuals, reflecting the diverse realities of daily life. Through these elements, a common thread emerges: a shared connection to the tropics, a celebration of diversity, and a deep respect for one another. There is no pretense in the words and actions that bind this project together, all carried out in the spirit of continuous learning.

In our studio, we use combination of hybrid materials, such as steel and wood, and light steel meeting brick—simple and inexpensive material, yet still utilizing a concrete structure that holds everything in place. Steel serves as the primary structural element, while wood acts as the secondary structure, supporting the steel to ensure the overall stability. This is an architecture that we believe complements the rigidity, and achieved through a composition we call “bricolage.”

We are incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to share Guha the Guild with a wider audience. We look forward to the upcoming event in Kochi, where we can connect and celebrate the incredible work being done across the industry. Thank you once again to the IIA Cochin Center and everyone involved for this incredible opportunity.
