In RAW Architecture, we produce 3 main analytical framework, such as responses towards attentions to Details (Tectonics), Thermal conditions, and Wind Pressure. It is a lesson learnt that we implement in all of our projects.
In context of this case study, Jakarta exemplifies the challenges such as :
1. Details of Critical resources, our design depart from the fact that our context, Indonesia, is a postcolonial country, and we recognize its lack of resources. To focus on craftsmanship is a way to design in creative way with critical thinking senses. RAW’s core value has been shaped by the intangible knowledge of the craftsmen, artist, and design and we prioritize craftsmanship process over expensive materials. This approach coins to Pluralism architecture that involves diversity in construction, using whatever in our excess to create buildings that are inclusive and connected to their context, combining high-tech systems with low-tech basics.
2. To achieve thermal and wind pressure comfort in Jakarta, a hot-humid tropical climate (23–33°C, 70–85% humidity, 0.2–0.8 m/s winds), the work of RAW embraces the needs and constraints of our context. We are aware of keeping the indoor temperature towards 27°C, and relative humidity must be kept at 30-60% to avoid dryness and dampness, is essential in maintaining maximum comfort through strategies that allows for microclimate to exist. The architecture must employ passive strategies such as stack and cross ventilation to carry steady cooling inside the building. To add to our efforts, we work with active strategies such as fans to help regulate fresh air. Our analytic team approach designs through the studies of comfort. The team uses modelling and simulation to review design from the lenses of data, to model these strategies more accurately to test its impact to our designs.
