Recently, RAW Architecture has just completed the concept phase of the RJ Bioclimatic Home. Each project feels like planting a new seed, shaped by its own process, people, methods, and context. On this site, the sun angles in diagonally and our design adjusts the massing by 50° to true North, aligning the home to its coolest orientation.
This rotation opens a “borrowed vista” toward the courtyard, connecting spaces such as the sunken living room with circular vistas, the staircase with an integrated bookshelf, a poetic book-nook landing, and a set of sleeping and living spaces layered with compartments. Above, a dual realm of healing, resting, and working brings the family together around a central garden.
Through these diagonal forms, we positioned the massing away from direct sunlight, potentially reducing heat from 32°C to comfort 27°C. This axis provides privacy in the North-South direction while revealing glimpses of life along the East-West. The clarity of massing, envelope, details, and brick materiality reinforces this bioclimatic intent.
Reflecting on this project and our works since 2012, nurtured by readings like Strange Details, Poetics of Architecture, and Material Imagination, we are reminded that poetic space, material play, and climatic sensitivity have always been at the heart of our practice. This scheme, through many iterations, leads us into an “upgraded reality,” a fresh outcome born from deep, persistent reflection.
