Previously, our studio has been exploring the idea of belonging in architecture, how space can embrace people, support communities, and nurture shared meaning. Today, we had the opportunity to work on a project that brings these values together, through a simple coexistence between communal spaces and perkutut birds dwellings.
The bird pavilion is shaped philosophy of nurturing and care. The perkutut birds, with their distinct voices and behaviors, offer a reflection on human life as Homo Socius, social beings who grow through presence, connection, and shared experience. Rather than standing apart, the architecture is meant to listen, to accommodate, and to grow alongside these relationships.
The project houses a communal lounge and farm supports perkutut competitions and its daily care. Over a hundred bird poles tower across the compound, with the lounge circling them to embrace their singing. This program offers privacy for the community, as living among passion would bear fruit for many. With abundant existing trees, it becomes the most introverted area for this activity.
Supported by abundant existing trees, the space becomes the most inward-looking part of the site, offering privacy and focus for the community that gathers around this shared passion.
