Sapo House

We are excited to unveil RAW Architecture’s progress for Sapo Home. The images reveal the roof structure, with details carefully developed piece by piece in close collaboration with trusted craftsmen Inspired by the metaphor of a mountain, the roof integrates skylights with colorful glass patterns. The house’s silhouette expresses genuine values through the vernacular construction. The undulating canopy shades the ground floor, constructed through a restrained palette of steel, concrete, and bitumen finishes.

The house accommodates bedrooms, a gym, and a studio for prayer and gathering, forming a deeply personal retreat. “Sapo” in Karo culture, refers to a resting house where farmers could pause, reflect, and look out over their fields. This meaning shapes the vision of the home as a peaceful space for solitary remote work and a sanctuary to grow old in harmony together with nature.

Surrounded by arcades and terraces, the house is sheltered from the hot afternoon and evening sunlight. Preserved trees act as natural sunshades, while lattice elements filter daylight into the interior, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere. Building simulations informed the design, helping to optimize both daylight quality and thermal comfort throughout the house.
