We first crossed paths with @noemieschh
and @amber_gth_ during a presentation by our principal, @rawarchiteture_best, in La Réunion.
What was shared that day was personal. Yet what lingered was the way they listened. Their attentiveness carried a quiet enthusiasm, as if they were recognizing something deeply resonant, something that intersected with their own questions and longings.
That realization became clearer when we saw them in Baduy. They asked many questions about the mystery of sufficiency, about a way of living that does not rush. It felt as though Baduy offered a life they had been imagining: grounded, deliberate, and whole, standing calmly against the constant acceleration of technology.
We sensed the same feeling when they were in Piyandeling.
They smiled. They were present. They were genuinely happy.
Noémie tends to move through rational structures, while Amber navigates the world more empirically, guided by intuition and feeling. Together, they represent a generation in motion, always thinking, sensing, and searching. The time we shared with them was deeply valuable. Their curiosity invited us to look again at Indonesia: at Nusantara, at simplicity, at modesty, at materials and craftsmanship we often take for granted.
They were most alive in the field, observing mock-ups, touching steel and wood shaped by hand, witnessing making as a process rather than merely a result. Through their excitement, we were reminded that what feels ordinary to us still holds care, meaning, and quiet beauty.
They come from far away, separated by thousands of kilometers, between Jakarta and La Réunion, between Indonesia and Africa. Yet we felt close. Connected not by geography, but by an inner energy: a shared spirit that keeps moving, keeps questioning, and keeps seeking.
This is how we will remember Noémie and Ambre, as part of a kinship across the equator, and as fellow travelers in a journey shaped by curiosity, humility, and care.
