Recently, RAW Architecture has just completed the concept and building the RS Bioclimatic Home located in Jakarta. In our heart, the making of case study of bioclimatic and poetic architecture is very important. One focus on creating sustainable building and the other one focused on art inside building.
In this case, RS Bioclimatic Home approach the functional design by creating:
- Shading canopy that become the facade,
- The skylight brings soft indirect light,
- Perforated walls facing north and south brings privacy and tactility.
These three concept amalgamation brings ground floor towards two open courtyards front and back, viewing connecting spaces from cool north-south. In the middle, there is stairs connecting sleeping and the living space above layered with service compartment and study spaces below.
These spaces is rendered with the skylights. The light is soft and heat is reduced with heavy insulation above potentially reducing heat from 32°C to 27°C comfort.
Reflecting on this project and our works since 2012, we believe on bricolage architecture concept nurtured by readings like Strange Details, Poetics of Architecture, and Material Imagination. In bricolage, we are unifying plural approaches with simple method: poetic space, material play, and climatic sensitivity. This scheme, through many iterations, leads us into an “wandering world,” a fresh outcome born from deep, persistent reflection.
