Hello, I am Helen, an architecture graduate from Institute of Technology Bandung. I have been an intern at RAW Architecture from November 2025 until March 2026 and I am grateful for the 5-month experience. Here I have gained so much knowledge about the architecture industry, got hands-on experience on the field, deepen my skills in Sketchup, Autocad, and Photoshop, inspired by Kak Rich’s ways of designing, and not to mention, had fun throughout the program with other interns and my senior designers.
I am proud and thankful for being a a part of the many fascinating and ambitious projects. I went through 4 different teams; Techne Normative, Episteme, Phronesis, and Sophia. Each with its own uniqueness and specialty. From each team, I learned that architecture is a big canvas that consists of many colours. Architecture has structure, details, aesthetics, social understanding, analytical thinking, and empathy. To be honest, people can still add more to what architecture has because it is truly a big tree that has many branches.
On my first month here, I was assigned to the Techne Team under Kak Joshi’s supervision. I got handed projects where I did details and the design development of residential projects. Here, I learn a lot of basic AutoCad and Sketchup (along with its helpful shortcuts) which helped me get used to the software that RAW designers use. Then 5 weeks later, I was moved to the Episteme Team under Kak Chai, Kak Novi, and Kak Ikhsan’s guidances. This is the first time where I have visited a project, which is the Noah Clinic, I was in charge of recording important points from one of its weekly meetings and eventually got to check out the ongoing construction. It was a memorable first impression. Thirdly, I was assigned to the Phronesis Team under Kak Yusrul’s guidance. This is the place where I learn about architecture in its social form, where I get to meet and follow the discussion with the contractors, owner, the external structure teams, vendors, and many more (even with a school security). Here, I was involved a lot in the Perkutut and OG House projects. At first it got a little tedious because I was used to be handed on different projects in a week, but looking back at it, I am thankful and proud to have a bigger role in one specific project. And lastly, I was in the Sophia Team with Kak Riyan and team to handle conceptual drawings. It did get harsh on the first week because of the team’s different pace from the other three teams, but I actually loved the experience! This is where architecture feels familiar, like being back at university. I got to make early plan drawings and 3D models which personally, makes it feel special. Here I got to experience being in a lot of discussions with Kak Rich regarding the first concepts of projects. It feels personal and brings out the creativity in architecture.
I want to thank the work-life, and I also want to thank the social-life, where I met and made close friends. I want to especially thank Putri, Vita, and Ahlal, my fellow interns, that have accompanied me the most throughout the journey. I also want to express my gratitude towards RAW’s designers that have helped and mentored me, Kak Joshi, kak Revi, Kak Rizka, Kak Kamil, Kak Chai, Kak Novi, Kak Ikhsan, Kak Yusrul, Kak Irfan, Kak Melisa, Ci Mei, Kak Riyan, Kak Shaf, Kak Tim, Kak Alya, Kak Zikri, and Kak Tyo. Without them I wouldn’t have gained and expanded my knowledge in Architecture, along with the soft skills and hard skills needed. I am thankful because my internship here has been very fun, knowledgeable, and meaningful. Lastly, I want to especially thank Kak Realrich and Kak Yudith for giving me the chance and opportunity to be an intern here, showing kindness and gratitude, and influenced me to be more ambitious and show care towards projects and responsibilities that I hold.
Kind regards,
Felicia Helena Yohan
