Hi, I’m Reinhardt Ezekiel Kurniawan. I’m currently 21 years old when I write this letter, sitting in my 3rd year of architecture at Tarumanagara University. I never really had an interest or set my life towards architecture before, but somehow ended up in architecture because of the aptitude and interest test that showed me. I was constantly anxious that I had chosen the wrong path and that it would be a waste of time. Turns out, studying architecture is different from what I expected. I ended up enjoying the challenges and the process alongside my friends.
It was during the 2nd semester of architecture that I discovered OMAH Library with my friends, which is a public library that has tons of architecture books. I was confused by the layout, and the staff had to guide us around. After spending hours at the library, I got more curious about the building itself. Also, as it is said, the library is also an architecture studio, which made me curious about the system and the space within it. At that time, I kept thinking, “How could there be an office with a lot of people inside a private house, and how do they keep it maintained?”
During my 6th semester, I got the opportunity to do an internship. At that time, I had no idea where to go. Then I remembered about OMAH Library, which I visited 2 years ago, and went to ask some friends about the work environment and its projects. I got referrals from them, and then I tried applying. I was excited when I got accepted as an intern.
I didn’t know what to expect, but everyone welcomed me with warmth, and I saw that they treated each other as one family. They cared and supported each other, even through the busyness. I had really fun experiences when working, eating, and hanging out with everyone. I’m really thankful to all the mentors, designers, and team leaders who taught me and were willing to help me throughout any challenges. I am really grateful for the experiences, and I feel that RAW was the right place for me to learn.
Thank you to Mr. Realrich and his family, and to everyone who has met and accepted me as an intern. I really enjoyed all the lessons, friendships, and memories that everyone gave me. It’s unfortunate that eventually, everyone has to part ways until another opportunity arises for us to meet again. I won’t forget all the things that I’ve been through. Thank you to the restless spirit of GUHA!
