Lumintu House is located on a challenging landfill site in North Jakarta, where temperatures can reach 35-40 degrees Celsius in the afternoon. The location is also near the beach, meaning the material used needs to be durable and protected with the best building technology in an urban area.
Lumintu House incorporates industrial and handcrafted sun-shading elements, doubling as a canopy for the building. This design resembles tree branching patterns extending outward as canopies, creating shaded spaces like sitting under a tree. It also protects surrounding plants from excessive sunlight and forms a soft and continuous transition, reflecting the “Lumintu” philosophy.
Craftsmen play a crucial role in construction, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques. Skilled craftsmen bend each steel piece individually. Their meticulous attention to detail in shaping each component reflects a blend of modern construction efficiency, enhancing the overall value and character of the building.
Regarding spatial planning, Lumintu House reflects Indonesian family culture, where gathering with family is common. The expansive, column-free main spaces on the ground floor seamlessly integrate with the outdoor areas, facilitating natural airflow and offering tropical landscape views. The high ceilings and skylights optimize natural lighting, while the wire-lined ventilation around roof windows enhances air circulation and prevents insects. Lumintu House also added a roof garden as a space for relaxation and contemplation, offering panoramic views of the nearby sea.
Lumintu House strategically minimizes environmental impact in both the construction and operation phases. By utilizing locally sourced materials and engaging skilled local craftsmen, the project reduces carbon footprint while ensuring long-term durability and low maintenance. This approach not only supports environmental goals but also strengthens community ties and promotes economic sustainability.
