Verra Andryanni – Hanyang University

Reflection Letter:

Hello! I’m verra, 3rd year student at Hanyang University in South Korea. I’m doing my studies while the coronavirus affected all of our environment and school life as well. Although offline classes finally reopened, there’s no exhibition or something that I can work with. I look back at my portfolio and it’s just like a monochrome, too ordinary. I realized I lacked of exploration and experience in the architecture world. Nevertheless, I want to do my graduation project with absolute confidence and delight. That’s why I took 1 year absence from school, decided to get into RAW as my first journey.

I redo my portfolio and designed it compactly in the best way that I could, only to apply to RAW. I checked on their website many times and it makes me won’t lose that chance for sure. There’s something that makes me realize this company is the one. Because they have such a characteristic that I love when designing a structure. The curve, a simple one but harder than it looks. Honestly, I’ve been struggling when designing curvy things since Korean prefer simplicity. I mean, I’m not enough to have a chance to observe deep into curvy structures. I just hope I have an opportunity to learn more about it.

Finally, on 5 July 2023, the first day of my internship program began. I exactly remember I was overthinking about the work environment, and how if I’m not qualified to match their standard. But I’m totally wrong, they just like a home. They welcome everybody who wants to put a single effort into every project. At first, I am struggling a lot to program a couple of software that I’m not used to. And was shocked cause I have to be flexible to jump right into another project for the upcoming deadline. And felt stressed, hoping that my contract completed as soon as possible. But as time goes by I end up enjoying this kind of work so much. Especially, when I visited a site. There’s a lot of things that I got. I learned how to be more patient, learn how to be an unequivocal person, and be accurate over small details which is something that I lack of.

I would say within a short time which almost the past 3 months growing up together with RAW, such a memorable thing, I won’t forget. I just want to say thank you to Kak Yudith and Kak Rich for the opportunity that maybe I couldn’t get out there, And for all the seniors and friends who helped me grow and push beyond my limit to be a better designer one day.
