Our principal, Realrich Sjarief, participated in the ETALASE 2024 discussions hosted by Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) on October 4th, 2024. The theme, “What is the Role of Architects for Net Zero Action?” centered around the role of architects in designing buildings based on Net Zero Emission principles, emphasizing the importance of caring for the environment and reducing carbon emissions.
Realrich’s presentation featured defining roles, that every step has its beginning—a state of humbleness inside the mindset. Our practice started in the humble garage studio. The RAW’s project harnessed locality, affordability, and sustainability to its limit by defining the limit’s territory. Ten projects presented are about getting the best air quality, reducing the temperature, providing well-being and biodiversity, and getting economic value while addressing the client’s physiological state. It’s a step-by-step process towards empathy, symphony with others, and diverse inspirations. Ultimately, it’s about creating an open design paradigm for architecture’s creative yet critical, more humanistic side.
In conclusion, Young architects must prepare for a long and complex journey by forming more detailed variations to grow new territory. In this case, DOT Tectonic’s evolution and solutions to clients include high-speed, crafted, and functional detailing. This comprehensive method needs a consistent willingness to learn that architecture is also about the clients. The last thing is to enjoy the process, bringing the best sensibility to the architect’s role.
ETALASE 2024 has attracted over 400+ attendees, and hopefully, we provide valuable insights. The Dean of UNNES, Wirawan Sumbodo, opened it, followed by a speech from Resza Riskiyanto, Chair of IAI Central Java. They encourage us to take responsibility and reduce environmental impact while enriching our surroundings. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the lecturers and students at UNNES for their support in nurturing.
