Syaukat Firdausi – Universitas Gadjah Mada

CHAPTER 1: ADORE

Hello, my name is Syaukat Firdausi. I am an Architecture student at Gadjah Mada University. I am currently a 3rd year student, and still pursuing my dream of becoming a good architect. My journey at RAW Architect began when I saw the work “Alfa Omega School” on the archdaily website. As someone who likes to experiment with materials in design, of course I was very amazed by how the “Alfa Omega School” was built using the main material, namely bamboo. How hard the architects and craftsmen worked to create this beautiful work?

CHAPTER 2: AMAZED

It is an honor, that I could have a closer chance to get to know RAW Architect. From initially only being able to see through a laptop screen, I finally had the opportunity to see and be directly involved in the design process at RAW Architect. The first day I came to GUHA accompanied by “Kak Riyan” around to enjoy the ins and outs of the space experience at GUHA. Along the way, I was stunned and amazed to see a work with so much diversity in it. A work that can pamper architecture students to study materiality in an architectural work.

CHAPTER 3: FIRST WEEK

I spent the first weeks as an “intern” on the Episteme team led by “Kak Melisa”. The Episteme team taught me a lot about working drawings that I probably would have never learned in college. The Episteme team is very cheerful and affectionate. Even though they are busy, all the seniors remain cheerful (at least) and keep smiling throughout the day accompanying the “interns”.

CHAPTER 4: JOYFUL WEEK

In the following weeks, I was transferred to the Techne team under the leadership of “Kak Joshi”. The Techne Team and the Episteme Team have the same scope of work but with different types of projects. I am very grateful to be on both teams because I learned a lot from there. The Techne team is always full of surprises and full of laughter. Not a day goes by without laughing at the jokes of the seniors.

CHAPTER 5: PAST DREAM

I spent the last weeks with the Narrative team at OMAH Library. A magical library that holds various mysteries in it like a “Pandora’s box”. Moving to the Narrative team truly satisfies a passion I’ve had for a long time. Apart from being an architect, I also dream of becoming a writer. In my opinion, through writing we can spread the knowledge and knowledge that we have (hey, knowledge has to be varied, right?). I learned a lot about architecture, theory, and history while on the Narrative team. “Kak Ufi” taught me a lot about the ins and outs of writing a book to tell a work/journey/knowledge.

CHAPTER 6: SYMBIOSIS

For me, the dynamics at GUHA are not just “internships”. I can learn, make friends, and be happy here while working as an “intern”. For me, GUHA is a perfect work of architecture, the building itself has a lot of diversity and the people in it have different characters. A perfect symbiosis between architectural works and architectural users (i think, this is what all architectural works should be like).

CHAPTER 7: MAGIC WORDS

My journey at RAW Architect has been very meaningful. Everything I want to know about architecture, I can get here. I want to apologize profusely if during my time here I often made mistakes. I hope all the “kakak-kakak” here can forgive my actions. I am very grateful to “Kak Rich, Kak Yudith, kakak-kakak designer, kakak-kakak librarian, and fellow interns” who have accompanied me on my journey at RAW Architect. I heard some of the “kakak-kakak’ here want to pursue further studies and I wish success to all the “kakak-kakak”. There are many words I want to say, but it seems they can all be represented with three words, I LOVE YOU! May God bless you all with success in your life and the afterlife, Amen!
