First of all, I heard about the 3+1 program at my university. That program allows me to have an internship at semester 6, with full-time office hours. I thought this is a good opportunity for me to develop my skill, to learn about architecture and design in real business than just stuck around on campus, make the assignment, pleno, and do that all over again.
So I told myself, “it’s time for you to walk away from your comfort zone.” And that means I have to leave my friends, my classroom, and my time in campus. And yes, I finally decided to apply that program and hoped that I can develop my skill and learn better than in campus. But it will be difficult for me cause I’m a very active person in university organization, so I will need a workplace that close enough to campus because I have to spare my time between work and organization.
But I think this was not my final decision. I want a `place that does not only give me salary without doing nothing, I want a place which I can learn and explore more about architecture and design. I want a place that will involve me to design. It’s difficult to decide which office I want to apply, so I had some research about consultants which place is suitable for me. Then I remember my senior ever mentioned about workplaces they used to work, so I asked them and I made three decision. It was RAW Architecture and two other consultants.
After I finished some regulation, I was waiting for the announcement and I accepted in RAW Architecture and another consultant.
But why? Why, in the end I have taken internship in RAW Architecture?
I searched both of workplace that I accepted, looked for their projects. As I looked in X projects on their website, I found out that consultant focused on Interior Design – less Architecture. No, this is not what I was looking for. And I asked my senior “who had experienced internship in X consultant?” But nobody ever experienced work in X consultant.
My friend told me about his experience of had an internship in RAW Architecture. He said that the people in there was very nice, and RAW Architecture is more education oriented. We are not only working, doing projects, working drawing and whatever-we-always-did-in-campus, but also have some fun, learning experience, lecture event in OMAH on (almost) every Saturday. The architects and designer there was very kind too and they can teach us if there is something we do not understand.
RAW office is close enough to campus so I will be able to work and still get involved in the campus organization, will not waste my time on the way and traffic.
And yes, I used to come to RAW Office (two times) few months ago (my campus was had an event and I have some business with Mr. Realrich, the committee invited him to became a speaker in Architecture Grand Festival in September 2015 and I became his moderator in that event) —-but overall, I think that office is very nice for me. I can do both working and learning, listening to the public lecture in OMAH, and RAW’s office is not too far from my campus.
So, then, yeah, I finally I’m here. I really hope that this place can improve my skills and knowledge. Really thanks to RAW Architecture for giving me the chance to experience working and learning here. I will try my best here.
