Craftsmanship Grammar: Bringing Craftsmanship Roots to Life
We will share a lecture at Yonsei University, diving into the evolution of RAW Architecture’s design at Yonsei University, one of the oldest, prestigious architecture universities in Korea. Building on our Underdog Philosophy lecture, which tackled Indonesia’s challenges like unaffordable housing and cultural gaps while celebrating its tropical resilience and craftsmanship, we’ll explore how our underdog spirit has grown into a revolution of craft.
Where: Room A563, Yonsei University, Seoul
When: Thursday, May 1, 2025, 6:00 p.m.
Our Principal, Realrich Sjarief will share about the concept of Grammar is about seeing design as a whole—from the tiniest details to the big picture, micro to macro, and back again. Our principal, Realrich Sjarief, will share three key perspectives: Methodology Grammar: How we research and lay a strong design foundation. Tectonic Grammar: The language of buildings, where structure and form vibe together. Craftsmanship Grammar: The final touch, where skilled hands turn details into living projects.
From raw concrete to bamboo, bricks, and woven steel, we use low-cost materials with a high-quality process, like CRISPR in genetic design: precise, natural, and transformative, without forcing the material’s essence. Our focus is detail-oriented, moving from small-scale to large, creating solutions for communities in Jakarta’s urban hustle, Yogyakarta’s cultural core, vernacular regions, and the visionary Nusantara. The presentation will share community house, library building, and private residence to dream a model of public project later on. These collaboration linked RAW with its community, clients, and engineering from low to high technology.
Yonsei University, a centre of Korean architecture blending tradition and innovation, is the perfect place to explore how craftsmanship and philosophy shape design’s future. Join us to see how we turn craft into reality! Yonsei is one of the three most prestigious universities in the country, part of a group referred to as SKY universities.
