Yesterday we watched a Guha movie on apple Tv, which was filmed by A24 the Apple TV team and edited and worked in a way I never expected. The film is directed by Sami Khan, and produced by dream team : Collin Urcutt, Nick Stern, Courtney Crock, Joe Yaggi, Patrick, Charlie Balsch, Maya Lubis, Lisa Sanusi, David Hutama, Laurensia, Miraclerich, Heaverrich, craftsmen Guha’s team, RAW Architecture studio, Omah and all of the big team in this movie.
We cried every seeing the lost our missing daughter and laughed every seeing Laurensia, Miraclerich and Heavenrich. We never expected the result to touch our heart, it’s gift to Guha.
.
I hate to explain music too much hahah so really hope you and your family enjoy the music when the episode airs!” This humbled us with such beautiful process comes beautiful piece of music titled “Bamboo Fantasia”.
As an architects, we tried to control, experiment with, and try to fit into balance things. But this movie worked beyond the control as I can’t control of some of the aspect in my life with Laurensia. As a subject, we was prone to be able to open the question in my mind such as how can they touch my heart when we saw this movie? They made us cry and sad in one of the scenes and made me laugh and hold Laurensia’s hand, looking at her happy eyes. This movie is magical and touching with a simple script, but the technical and preparation aspects are not easy.
.
Collin and Nick spent much time discussing and talking about Guha and our family activities. Then, Sami joined as director, and then I felt the questions go more profound than before. Suddenly It touched our weakness which is Losing our daughter. That situation made me shut down my emotion over the years. I never expected that spot hits me hard, and it isn’t easy to talk about it. We cried in the session, we learned that opening myself helps to heal myself.
.
In the next session in the zoom meeting, they met with Laurensia. They needed to meet Laurensia because Laurensia was paranoid about the pandemic, and it was not easy to get Laurensia’s approval. She once said, “honey, this guy is going to make good on you. They have prepared to discuss and make things proper.”
.
She thought that it was only me who would be in the movie, but soon as she understood that her, Miracle, and Heaven were needed on the set, she changed to be a different person that is more open. This moment is a process of us opening ourselves to the fear of pandemic and the fear of us fanning ourselves. One zoom meeting sometimes takes 1-3 hours, and several times were meeting. Then, the day finally came when the Apple TV + team came to Indonesia. Sami, Courtney, and Collin led the team in collaboration with Joe, Patrick, and the team. What interests me is the perfection involved; they need to take the shots several times over and over at a different angle. The heavy tools consist of cranes, drones, lenses, and big cameras. Sami told me that the devices used to take Verite, which means the art or technique of filming something (such as a motion picture) to convey candid realism, and it’s a beautiful shot tested from several angles. Working on something over and over is like craftmanship. It takes enormous energy for one scene to take, but they did hundreds of images in weeks. One time I heard Patrick say,

“Sami, I can’t take it anymore!” I saw Sami, Collin, and Courtney. They focus on the story, logistics, and details because their time to take shots is limited. The camera is heavy for sure.
The next interesting one is spontaneity, they encourage us, me Laurensia, and all of the people on set to be spontaneous like doing our daily activities. Being spontaneous is about showing the back and front stage as it is. It’s an open-up process. There was one line I liked when Laurensia noted that we are connected with gossip in Indonesia when we discussed the city that is so detached.
Spontaneity contested us, to be honest with me, and it helps us appreciate memories with my relation, especially with David Hutama, who interpreted and positioned me. Sami said one time, “Realrich have you heard David saying? Are you getting along with him usually ?” I think I have not met David for such a long time, 3-to 4 years. I remember I met and discussed with David when founding Omah Library.

.
The session of Courtney directing Miracle is memorable, and It’s a Miracle’s favorite. Courtney helps to control Miracle without him even realizing he is on set. He always asked if he would meet aunty Courtney because he explored new things. It’s the same with Laurensia And Heaven, some images were sent to me by a team together as memories, and I genuinely love them because of their smile. I think about them all Of the time. Family is my priority.
.
During the interview, I saw Collin keep writing. One time, Sami asked questions, and Collin reviewed the answer and twisted it to another question for me to answer more clearly. He scrutinized all of the script, dubbing, and technical aspects over and over. They never told me that some of them were the producer, the director, and the scriptwriter. They just worked like a team that had been working for ages. Once, Collin said, “at the end of this release, we are going to be family,” which summarizes my proposition about ideas for answering the questions they prepared. So the situation, ecosystem in the making helps to inspire on site.
.
Then, the day after we went to Alfa Omega school, I felt connected with my childhood when I heard that Lisa spoke, always bringing a vision to help young people. She wanted to get independence from the education system. For young ones, I learned to be as simple as I could. Being honest is an act of humanity. That school is a reminder of how architecture can touch humanity, and we as an architect still have many things to learn.

.
The Apple team traveled quite much, and I saw them quite exhausted. I asked Pak Joe whether this is normal For production to have a very intense camera. He said that it is only beginning. After this, there will be times for editing, and it will take months to finish. Editing takes time. I remember when collin wrote something, my mind came when I wrote the manuscript of architecture as an escape from my daily routines. Literacy for them is crucial to get the sequence in the movie. It’s like an architecture experience based on script: program, material, wisdom.
.
Ultimately, it takes the second trip with bu Maya and Charlie to add more verite video and make the shots even more beautiful. This process made me realize that we need to open myself up in this life. Wherever we are currently struggling, the energy around architects has its S curve, which means there is a steep learning phase associated with short time and intensive training, and then enjoying the learning outcomes until the graph decreases again. The key for a person to continue growing is getting the next S curve from a declining chart. It’s a process to incline up likewise from one angle to another to bring continuous improvement—this improvement leaps the system from the life around architects. In reflecting on that S curve break, there is a moment of celebration of the closeness, personal, and network that makeup life.
This Film made by the production, director and all of the amazing team featured in Apple Tv shows multiple S curves in a short time, and on every upside of the curve, there will be a scene of Miracle smiling and running. That opens up self to treat architecture and its people like a family through tears in heaven. A hope to bring miracles and heaven to others through architecture. Big Thank you to all of you below, you meant so much to my heart and Laurensia as family. Look at the big team below !
