Akar Langit

Terima kasih Tuhan.

Rumah Jawa

Features : Axial planning house with terracotta rooster, airstacking effect and view facing the breathtaking Landscape
The Rumah Jawa responds its context of the potential of the site by 3 main design intentions : the existing house which was at the west side of the area.
The intentions are: First, exposing the view to the west, the view is to the exisiting swimming pool and adjacent to the exisiting house, providing axis to the boundary of exisiting house and the swimming pool. second, by exposing building that avoid west side because of the heat of direct sunlight of tropical climate which can expose the temperature to 33 degree Celsius, third, by designing a building envelope that responds to sunlight angle during 11 am o clock until 3 pm o clock the whole year. The fourth is providing horisontal and vertical wind tunnel to allow fresh air to the building in 24 hours. The design of the building then conclude that the building need to face east at its widest sun exposure to facade, north, and south, but then, the cantilevered concrete prevents direct sunlight the whole year.

The void In the middle of the house functions as air chimney to respond air-stacking effect at its design core forming a stepping expression of tumpang sari, which is been client’s favorite. The design of the opening, rooster at main door wall allows cross air ventilation to happen in the building by having tiny gab on its pattern opening. The chimney allows hot air flows out through the gab. In the afternoon the layout design allows natural lighting coming in so the user doesn’t need to use artificial light.

The layout of Rumah Jawa Residence use attachment and detachment open plan concept, which allows living room, bedrrom and kitchen separated by 2 axis corridor. In the first floor, the space is designed for master bed room, living room, and kitchen, and 2 more bedrooms. The floor to ceiling is designed by having 3 m height to get more spacious space.

Deskripsi :

There are people among us that has the privilege to enjoy great things in their career life such as continuing education overseas, working in great international design studio/offices… living their dreams as one of the few that can shape and influence built environments, in inspiring ways, to be better ones for the greater good of many.

We want them to share their journey, their stories on how to get there and what we can learn from it. Behind every success there must be trial and tribulation, struggle and hardships. Behind every journey, there must be friends and companions, supports and promoters.
Let’s listen to one of the journey .. “Realrich Fool’s Progress”

This event is part of the effort of “Continuing the Legacy of ARS (Ahmad Rida Soemardi)”, our friend, our mentor, and our supporter, who relentlessly promoted young designers like Realrich and many others. We hope to continue this event series as a
platform for designers, architects, landscapers and planners with urban interest to interact, share and continue the legacy of Mas Tata. Books of Architecture – Strange library

The Guild has a library, called OMAH Library,  which located near studio bathroom. The library’s wall was created by concrete, and finished by couting. The plafond used gypsum material with waffle pattern, and there is skylights on the ceilling. This skylight function is to give natural lighting inside this library.

DSCF5539

Overall, this place was inspired by a poem which written by Ann C.

We’re curious. We learn.
We become hungry for knowledge as if we’ve been starving for centuries.
Thus, we cram, we swallow and try to devour everything we could into our heads.

However, time chases us like a hunter after prey.
After all, knowledge doesn’t come to us effortlessly.
We risk the danger of being demolished with time and carefully learn all that there is to learn and remember.

At last, are we able to feast, risk it all and retreat without being fed on by time instead?

this poem told us, we are hungry for knowledge, but there’s no knowledge will come easily or come by it self. To get knowledge, we need efforts and make time to read the books. That’s why, the poem told us Library was weird. We can stay in library, reading books and spending our time without realize time has passed

Finding Pietra Serena with technique of Stucco Lucido

the guild tried to make something similar to pietra serena (a gray sandstone also known as Macigno stone) by using different material from GRC by applying techniques from Stucco Lucido.  Stucco Lucido is formed from dissolved animal glue, boiled linseed, and dissolved Bologna’s plaster (calcium sulfate). Natural earth shades are added to the mixture until the desired color is reached. The mixture is sieved and left to cool. So the color stays consistent a single mixture for all surfaces treated is made. Coats are applied to the surface and sand of each layer before moving on to the next one. In order to achieve a glossy brushed stucco finish, the process is continued by applying cross-layered coats. The last coat is applied with an iron spatula that is at least 8 cm wide. The mixture being pressed until the desired gloss is achieved. This technique avoids using wax, the glossy effect is achieved with a long hand-processing of the mixture that is laid on the surface and is what creates a fluid and transparent coating.

Steel was applied for railing. It has a pipe shaped, with 0,5 inch diameter and it height is 1,1 meters. To join the pipe, we are using weld.

We use Ulin Wood with Ultran finishing for the stair steps. For lighting, we use LED lamp as indirect lighting and placed it under the wood finish, hidden from the eye.

Archinesia Vol.5 – Good Design in Architecture Now.

Realrich is interviewed in Archinesia Vol.5 – Good Design in Architecture Now. Please check the note from Archinesia :

One of the most important (and now quite dominant) processes in architecture is design process, and the goal of architecture design is to attain good design.

Good design has a double meaning, aesthetic and ethic. In architecture the two should be united as a single goal that a design process should strive for. Moreover, an architectural product does not only affect its client and architect. On a broader level, architectural products also affect their surrounding environments. In a larger scale, they may even have an effect on the economy and the social and political condition.

The question is: how does an architectural design attain the label ‘good design’? We tried to find the answer through a round table discussion by inviting the two groups of architecture professionals in Indonesia: practitioners and academics. What are their thoughts on this matter? You can peruse them in the Main Coverage of Archinesia Bookgazine Volume 5. The main coverage is a transcription of the presentation of each speakers of the round table discussion, with no intervention whatsoever from our writers, which tends to steer the readers’ opinions. Why did we choose to run the transcription as is? Through this direct transcription we invite our readers to be present in the midst of the conversation circle. But what about the arguments and the formed opinions? We let them open for our readers to process, analyze, and summarize. Because we know there are no such things as standard parameters for good design. Whether or not good design is achieved by an architectural product, it is highly dependent to the condition and context of where we are.

Good designs can aslo be enjoyed through architectural works. This time we have several architects whose works are exhibited for the first time in the pages of ARCHINESIA Bookgazine, even though they are quite famous in ASEAN’s architectural scene. They are Duangrit Bunnag from Bangkok and Singapore based DP Architects and ONG&ONG. We are also delighted to show the works of young architects who are always emerging in ASEAN area, such as Revano Satria (Semarang, Indonesia), Archimetric (Surabaya, Indonesia), and Studiodasar (Jakarta, Indonesia). Are their works entitled to be called good design? We’ll let you, readers, to be the judge. At the very least, these select works are an effort to bring good design to architecture today.

Seniman Sunaryo, Matahari dari Priangan

IMG_20140109_210401

Ketika jaman silih berganti, ketika sang gunadharma menua, muncul pertanyaannya

Manusia punya umur, kalau ia beruntung bisalah ia mendapatkan 100 tahun,

seperti jaman dahulu, ketika jaman masih sama, ketika gunadharma belum menua

Namun langit masih diam, bumi pun diam

langit masih saja mendung, bumi pun masih dingin

terima kasih,

Orang tua itu, Seniman Sunaryo
